I had been with the company for less than a year, but I did well on my reviews and everything seemed good however, I got laid off a few days before paternity leave was suppose to start. It was a part of a mass layoff so I don’t think I can say it was because of the paternity leave but I am windowing if there is anything not “above board” letting an employee go days before they have a child. I’m not worried about $ I have a nest egg to support my family for at least a year to figure things out. #severance #layoff
I mean nothing above board about it. It’s layoffs, no one is safe from them unless you’re under a strong union. Sorry to hear though, hoping you find something soon.
Nobody is safe from layoffs
I’m so sorry to hear. Hope things get better for you. Maybe it’s just the beginning of something new brighter and better.
Which company?
I’ll give you a hint: largest corporate realest consulting firm consulting for the largest tech company in the Bay Area.
Infosys
No. You can be laid off even when on LoA
I would talk with an employment lawyer to negotiate a bigger severance. I personally don’t care if it’s a mass layoff; you are out a job and pat leave days before the birth of your child.
creating this evil world of sue or be sued is all part of partaking in the evil you complain about spend that energy to look for another job. employment is not a marriage vow, it is a temporary agreement that can end at any time let it go and go find another job
I literally don’t care about the world. I care about protecting my family. Get your money and sue if you have to.
People who are not having a baby can sue the company if company gives avoids laying off people who are having babies. There is a legal reasoning
Don't sign any agreements they give you! Talk to a lawyer first. They will try to strong arm you into signing ASAP just tell them your lawyer needs a week with it.
You think a lawyer will do significantly better than 6 weeks of severance?
You never know. Make that a contingency ie they get paid a % of everything over 6 weeks
All these people thinking, ‘I am having a baby, you can’t lay me off,’ need a reality check. EVERYBODY has expenses and issues going on in their lives. People being like —- it’s not fair. I want to be paid for 4 months for doing nothing while my coworkers pick up the slack and people in the office should be laid off while I’m not I’m sorry, but nut up. You made you baby, now have it.
Doing nothing?
Nothing for THE COMPANY.
Sorry to hear. Similar happened with me.
