Laid off Meta E4 YOE 4 Previous TC 310K My background aligns more with Yahoo finance and I was told by the hiring manager that I might have a chance to lead a critical project. The project sounds fun. On the other side, I am scared that Yahoo will ruin my resume. I’ve never seen anyone who joined yahoo from meta before. If you are a hiring manager, can you please comment if you are hiring anyone from yahoo? Atlassian offer sounds ok. The leveling is below yahoo and TC as well. The work is a new domain(security) to me and I guess that’s why they downleveled me. Both positions are fully remote Help me decide please. #yahoo #atlassian
what’s your background? as an engineer which products did you work on in meta?
don’t underestimate domain knowledge. will propel your career faster than just tech knowledge
Data infra is my background. Yahoo finance has 100M daily active users based on the HM. They need to move data here and there. I guess I can make an impact there
Laid off in November?
Correct
I haven’t had any luck with Yahoo. Can’t even get an interview. No idea why.
Why are you specifically looking to join yahoo if you are with msft?
Why is anyone thinking of going to Yahoo at all? Madness.
How did you prepare for system design?
for which company?
For both
I actually really love yahoo finance articles.. they can be surprisingly insightful. IMO any future HM who keeps up w/tech or market trends will appreciate the name on a resume!
Are both offers fully remote. Whats your yoe. I would go with yahoo if yoy dont care about the cool factor. Jump in a year or two
Both fully remote/ 4yoe
Be careful - Atlassian just had layoffs, and wouldn’t be surprised if more happen. They also reorg every year.
5% does not mean anything. SDE affected were even less. Atlassian should be pretty stable as the the company is still hiring aggressively.
You see where I work, right? Morale has gone down the tubes. This is not the place it used to be.
Really liking the new UI for TC.
Yahoo Finance is the only respectable part of Yahoo. And no one likes Jira. The answer is clear.
Do you need $ and the title or do you need a good brand name? I’m guessing the former? Get the title, gain experience and jump again in the future. You anyway have FB on your resume. That’s enough.
I just don’t know. I am leaning towards yahoo simply because the nature of the work that aligns more with my background.
Yeah that’s what I’d lean towards too.
