I was recently laid off from Ping Identity after acquisition by a PE firm (2022) and a merger with another company (ForgeRock). It was a mass layoff affecting around 15% people with Ping Identity. I was a Sr Product Manager there. For context, Ping Identity is in the Identity and Access Management space. According to Forrestor it ranks third in IAM after Microsoft and Okta. I’m writing this hoping to shed some light on my experience with the security/IAM field. I led PingOne Directory, the equivalent of Microsoft Azure Active Directory. Times have been tough recently with so many people having been laid off, and looking for jobs. It seems to be an unfortunate situation where employees don't have much control over the situation. I live in Austin, TX, where the state gives you a small amount as unemployment support, which would help greatly while I look for another opportunity. The biggest expense seems to be the medical insurance. Never expected to be in this situation, but I guess it is what it is. I have recently started looking for a job and am hoping to get some referrals. Would be really thankful if I get some reference for these companies, which currently have security focussed PM roles available. PS: I'm also open to others - if you have a senior product manager/Director role open in your company, I'd greatly appreciate a reference. Happy to give out more information/LN profile if it helps. Fairly certain I saw a few identity and security related PM positions at Microsoft's Career site. Don't DM for referrals because all my referrals seem not to work... I don't know if it was something I messed up a while back, but you probably have a better chance with a different referral.
Thank you for responding. I am really interested in Microsoft because they are the leaders in IAM - Active Directory is the most used DB in the world. And Microsoft puts their size to good use (low cost, big footprint with other MS products) I am curious - do referrals actually work at MS? I have heard that it is difficult to get a call unless you could get your resume to the HM directly. Wondering what is your take on this.
From what I have heard, you want one or two positions tops (not too many) where you have a good chance. Then a referral who preferably can get your resume in front of the hiring manager (has a working relationship with them). I'm not entirely certain to be honest. A lot of holes in our recruiting system.
