Layoff Anxiety!!

My spouse's company recently went through a work force reduction due to drop in the revenues. She is india for her H1b visa stamping but survived the layoff. Her concern is they are waiting for her to comeback to cut her position. Does it happen like this or Did she survive this round? What are the options to get yourself prepared?
