Layoff stories: how were you laid off?

I’ve never been laid off but have seen coworkers get let go: The company (not WePay) was laying off 1000 software engineers scattered across 4 locations. They started with the east coast then slowly moved towards west coast. I was based in the west coast so our layoffs happend on a Friday. My project manager and product owner were let go on Monday and Tuesday. The day my project manager was let go he and I were on a call, he said he had to go to a sudden 1x1 with his manager, set his Skype status to away, then 10 minutes later his status was “presence unknown” - what a shitty way to fire people. Then finally on Friday were the layoffs in my office. I usually came in around 7 AM when the parking lot was empty. On Friday, the entire front row lot was packed with fully tinted SUVs (think GM/Ford) and strange people in corporate attire walking around smiling at me. All the meeting rooms were booked and managers were laying off their peers teams. My friend was super nervous so he stepped out to walk around the hiking trails near the office, I went with him. As soon as he got back, a manager was looking for him and called him to come with him. His Skype status too went to “presence unknown”

Pipped 2 months into a new job a few years back after being setup by hiring manager. Apparently, I was the 3rd PIP on the same project that year -- all their PIPs were people of color too.

So messed up...I had something similar, but lasted 10 months. Everyone of same ethnicity got the same treatment from the same manager. I had my lawyer craft a passive aggresive note when it came time to sign exit agreement for severence - got a few more months of cash severence. Always opt out of arbitration agreements in future roles - they'll be more scared to settle small with you.

Curious - why hire a certain race when you’re going to PIP them?

Is it true Wepay has layoff or JPmorgan has lay off?
