A family member has been with AT&T for the past 25 years. They received a notice from their manager saying they would be surplussed (laid off). A couple days later, the company comes back and says instead of being surplussed, they will go ahead and give my family member the “retirement” instead. Basically a forced retirement. Is this legal? What should my family member do? #LayOff #Retirement #ForcedRetirement #Severance
Might be a good thing. Your relative might be eligible for more benefits that way. Get the plan details. Like if they’re 5 years shy of getting the gold benefits reserved for people with 30yrs of service, they are accelerating the vesting, so to speak.
Just imagine AT&T forcing you into a retirement home.

What do you get in company retirement? Pension?
They get pension about 400k. The company is giving a severance of half the yearly salary which is about 48k.
So why are they complaining. Get 400k, go on retirement, work somewhere else?
