Gut punch. Eagerly and anxiously awaiting the fate of my team and myself. It's a bittersweet feeling to be on the edge of being laid off or not. I feel for all of my colleagues and peers because not only did we achieve our goals with data to back the results we also spent an average of 50-60hrs per week to achieve these goals. No matter who you are, as an employee you're investing your time and mental health into the work you produce. Just some simple math to show how callous these layoffs are irrespective of company: - 24 hours in a day; 7 days a week = 168 total hours in a week - we need 6-8 hours to sleep, 7 days * 7 hours of sleep average = 49 hours - work an average of 10hrs per day 5 days per week = 50 hours - 100 hours for sleep and work out of 168 The numbers show we spend 1/3 of our life sleeping, 1/3 at work and 1/3 with family, friends, gym, self care etc So if 30% of your existence is based on you being an employee, doesn't that mean we are entitled to get the treatment we deserve from these companies in times of hardships? Especially, if the CEO is making $40m+ and flys in private jets and yachts on a Tuesday. #foodforthought #leadershipmatters
I know the feeling. Best of luck. Hope this works out for the better on your end. 🫡
Your math checks out probably, but you were paid for those hours. That’s all the commitment you receive from a corporation. Welcome to the world before this insane tech bull run.
I disagree with this. Capitalism is successful when there's loyalty on both sides. Rebellions and revolutions start when one side thinks they have no rules to follow.
The loyalty only exists because there is a barter of work for money or other intangible benefits like job satisfaction and a sense of purpose. When a company doesn’t need your work output, everything goes away. There is no other purpose of keeping you employed. Some companies think about their future perception and pretend to be kind - but that is only to be able to attract more workers when the times get better.
Good luck, it’s rough times
