Layoffs Suck

Layoffs Suck but stripe handled the communication well by including immigration, career, and healthcare support. https://stripe.com/en-gb-nl/newsroom/news/ceo-patrick-collisons-email-to-stripe-employees

What immigration support they will give to H1b? Curious that how they retain their status here.

Goldman Sachs gotye2 Nov 3, 2022

Probably help them transition to B visas, which will give them more time to find a new job

AppDynamics eTol84 Nov 7, 2022

No! They are not giving regular paychecks so no extended h1b. There is no immigration support. Moving to B2 visas is not practical and hence a joke. Plus anyone who wants to do that doesn’t need stripe support to do it. Any immigration lawyer can file that for you in less than $1000. What Stripe should have done is give people extended payroll instead of severance, which they didn’t. They probably wanted to reduce their recurring expenses in time for earnings, so their stock price can rise and they don’t have to pay a lot of RSUs to remaining employees. Stripe layoff is one of the worst and all this HR publicity doesn’t change that.

“Immigration, career, and healthcare support” aka an email from HR about each of the 3 topics.

Splunk clzn52 Nov 3, 2022

Isn’t that his job ?

Meta gecco Nov 3, 2022

Can someone explain in English what stock vesting thing is mentioned?

Microsoft SQL null Nov 3, 2022

Wow! That's a greatly executed lay offs message. Sitripe has very good leaders.

Who’s the ghost writer 🤔

Microsoft Jethiya Nov 3, 2022

Literally nothing concrete about visa support 🤷🏻‍♂️

Google b9n6b5f Nov 3, 2022

"We have extensive dedicated support lined up for those of you here on visas (you’ll receive an email setting up a consultation within a few hours), and we’ll be supporting transitions to non-employment visas wherever we can." If the company can fast track your O-1 application or at least get you a B-2, that's still better than nothing. I agree with OP that Stripe handled this well assuming everything written in the letter is actually done and not just empty promises.

Aptiv chenchenyi Nov 7, 2022

Very suspecious. Why would a company file O-1 where there is no intent to hire? That’s scam with USCIS. Moreover, O-1 requirements are not easy for everybody. B-2 is not a good visa to search work.

ByteDance bEmc31 Nov 3, 2022

Thank you lord master for graciously kicking me to the curb and offering resources to sign up for food stamps. How about this: Fuck every company who’s doing layoffs? Poor planning and foresight shouldn’t be glorified because they tossed you some crumbs on the way out

This guy fucks

Airwallex jason77 Nov 3, 2022

How does a company even overhire? It’s incredibly clear that they have far more people than they should. Even months ago I saw they had over 6000 employees and I’m like wtf? No way they need more than 3000 to run Stripe.
