TBH the ranges listed for software engineer / manager in this are not very competitive, assuming it is referring to total comp and not just base salary (according to the base cap). Also something fishy with the row for Software Engineer 1, where the midpoint comp ($186k) is higher than the max comp ($181k).
The swe1 does not look right. New grads aren't really getting 180k, you can see levels.fyi for example, but maybe some industry hires might get this offer (they have several yoe but got downlevel from sde2) Otherwise it looks right. You are right that Amazon is not really paying anything crazy for each position
With those total comps, mandatory $160k / $185k base, and the super backloaded vesting policy, I do not understand why anyone with the skills to work as a SWE for Amazon would choose to do so. You can get better total comp, better vesting terms (even considering Amazon’s signing bonus), and much better WLB / avoid fear based PIP culture, at pretty much any mid-tier or better tech firm. Given how much pain Amazon expects you to endure to work there, I would expect double to triple these figures in LCOL areas, even more in HCOL areas, and that would just start breaking even with other options. In HCOL areas, even fresh new grads are making close to $200k, sometimes more ($160k base and $40k/year RSUs), at late-stage startups even, with regular vesting schedules. This is very shocking. I enjoy Amazon’s products quite a bit, but I’d expect workers to basically avoid it at all costs given these comp numbers. Extremely surprising that they can hire any staff at all with these numbers.
Max numbers look low.
This was the max in Seattle in the 2021 perf review season.
The current Seattle ranges are definitely higher by around 10%. Bay Area ranges another 5-10% higher.
Looks like Seattle range for SDE2 for the most recent annual review. Max for NYC and bay area goes up to around 317k.
Does BI just not know about levels.fyi?
Agreed, I think they're just too dumb to realize that everyone in the industry already should know these ranges
yeah seriously… I was like this is new worthy? Lol
These are Accurate numbers for Seattle/Austin.
Seattle and Austin have similar pay scale?
Yep. Hmu if interested in atx
What about recent posts where SDE 3 comp can go up to $500k?
That’s how we know the new ranges are likely real; the news never gets it right.
Up to 500k means first year 500k or avg 500k over 4 years?
Why is mid comp range lower than max for L4?
Because mid < max?
Not accurate. I was offered 185k base for sde2, nyc based. 5yoe
It mentioned the base can be 185K for Bay Area and NYC. This is likely for Seattle.
sig_faker: how much was the sign on and how many stocks?

Anyone know how accurate the information here is, and also which location these numbers are for? Also, call to action for recruiters to post similar TC ranges for other companies too. We know you don't like negotiating with candidates, and making this information public will make everyone's job easier.
Looks pretty accurate to me. Only thing is I would have expected SDM III max comp to be higher. Very likely Seattle/similar markets. It's not NYC/Bay Area as base cap is higher than 160k there.
Pretty inaccurate or extremely outdated however the ranges would also have multiple variations for the local market (US and global)
