Spotify is great and I could see myself here for a few years but zero route for promotion or increase in salary. TikTok roles in my field have base of $136k-$273k. Current TC is $186k (base $160k). Can likely get $220k base at TikTok. Are they really dead set on no layoffs in US? #tech #layoffs
TikTok is a horrible place to work. Awful culture
Have you worked there?
Walmart.. đ
Careful about china
Why? Because its easy to hate on anything China? đ But seriously, working at TT likely sux in general just about as much as it would at Amzn. All depends on $$$
Because china team may not speak much English. Or they can but they'll choose not to with you. Because they may have control over things you need and may just ignore you. You're blocked and they don't care. Because you could just get milked for some knowledge then managed out hard when they got the IP or whatever they wanted. Because everything they deliver to you may be broken and they may not want to help you troubleshoot their deliverables and just say your application is what's broken even when it's obviously theirs.
Layoffs unlikely especially in high priority business in early stage like e-commerce US
For anyone reading that wants a TikTok referral, DM me. TC is solid and we are still hiring for hundreds of roles. I can add a recommendation to your application and advise through the interview process
How do you work at Spotify if you're on the west coast? I thought they only hire in the east coast
They have a whole LA team and office.
Spotify from what I have heard has one of the best work life balance and culture. But pay is on the lower side. TikTok , is highly team dependent. Some teams are good some not so much. Also, growth for a non Chinese speaking individual is not the same as someone who can speak Chinese. But way faster paced environment than Spotify. Be prepared to work evenings ( if not always , few days out of a week for sure) So TikTok can serve as a good platform to jump higher. Spotify if you want to have slow paced work life and to spend more time with family.
It's an awful work culture, negotiate hard because it's difficult to actually get a raise, speak Chinese for better chances of getting hired, be prepared to take calls either early or late as China timezone is our end of day.
I interviewed with a recruiter last year at TikTok and she mentioned that TikTok has review cycles every six months and itâs possible to get promotions and/or raises during each one. Is that true?
Donât go to TikTok. There are literally hundreds of posts on this app talking about the horrible culture, wlb, etc. However, if youâre both Chinese and single, itâs worth a shot.
Save yourself and stay where you are
