I'm not passionate about the work I do in my department and am considering to start interviewing and go to a smaller company (E.g. Coursera, Udacity, Collective Health, etc.) I wanted to know some people's thoughts about the pros and cons and if you think it's worth it at this stage in my career. 23 years old, iOS Engineer, 125K base, 215k RSUs I'm not sure if/how much of a pay cut I would be getting if I go to the companies mentioned above. I was also considering going to Google or Facebook and work on a product I was passionate about. What would you do? Thoughts? What other health/EdTech companies would you consider working for?
Collective health should be on par with your pay. I interviewed but hiring manager wasn't that of the role.
have a friend in Health industry for years and it's hard for her to find a job outside health because recruiters don't think the background matches.
Consider Course Hero, they have a very good engineering culture. w/r/t working in health/biotech, I think that it depends on the company. There are some startups in the biotech space which can definitely give you access to impactful work and will pay well.
Which org are you in?
I love these fields and am myself exploring in some - health care like the collective health one has real good potential
please be aware that most health companies, just as the rest of us, talk about making the world better/helping people, but when you really get to it, all they want is to make money, and that's what drivers the decisions. been there, done that.
not that it's bad, just don't fall for the bullshit and think your work will be meaningful because it saves lives. it very likely won't. may still be interesting nonetheless.
what role you in?
I'm an iOS Engineer
