Leaving on good terms

If I leave my company for another, what explanation leaves the best impression: Leaving to take time off to figure out next steps. Leaving for better opportunity with a competitor and name the company. Leaving for a better opportunity from unnamed company. Or other explanations? The goal is to leave on the best terms possible in case I ever need or want to go back. I’m a good performer in my current role, no problems. Thx!

Yea just say you’re interested to gain new perspectives and think about different problems for awhile

Why is this hard? Just say you left for a new opportunity. Done. Based on the title I thought you were getting canned.

You left for more cheddar and a better job. Just say it as is.

“Leaving to take time off to figure out next steps” Sadly for immigrants this isn’t an option, everyone will know you’re lying because your immigration status can’t afford a few months of unemployment.

What you say matters less than what you do. If you say any of those things and still work hard to wrap things up and leave no mess, people will have a good impression of you.

^^ this. Leave the company in a good position by creating a transition plan and doing a proper hand off.

A career is more than a job. It's about growing as a person which requires new experiences. Let them know that this wasn't about the company or the position and you wanted to take on a new challenge

That’s a lot of fake words. Why to bother giving such a speech?

Maybe it's just money and a job for you
