I studied electrical engineering at MIT and most of my peers who did not study computer science can solve any medium level questions 90% of the time after spending a couple days practicing. I can’t believe people actually struggle with this #google #meta #apple #amazon #microsoft
Ok Gayle. You sold a lot of shitty books. Time to retire now
They probably studied math though. Leetcode is more geared towards mathematical thinking than real engineering
Not really
Smart people study math or math makes people smart?
Shocking discovery OP
People who graduate from schools like MIT and become just SWE’s are failures
Agree. Supposedly the best and brightest and just end up as a SWE seems like a waste.
Oh my god, smart people have an easier time solving problems? I am shocked 😮
Next you’re going to tell us that water is wet
I’ve worked with people who were coding competition champions who were terrible terrible engineers and coworkers. Being good at leetcode says something but, by itself, is terrible signal that has been made worse by it being used to measure hire-ability
Newbies and competitive leetcoders have the same habits. Poorly named variables and no spacing within logic statements
Poorly named vars and no spacing? You are lucky you never had to interview a code golfer lol
LeetCode is just rote memorization. I'd honestly say it maps to intelligence just as much as memorising the multiplication table (ergo none).
no, the point of the post is that leetcode is not rote memorization if you're actually good at it. I have done less than 10 leetcode questions in my life, don't study for interviews, and have never seen a question in an interview that I already knew. I was actually really surprised to see when I joined blind that people approach alg interviews like this
I think it also depends on your college education. If you got to do a lot of coding or assignments were very difficult then leetcode style questions should be straightforward
To my surprise, many leetcoders under 1k rank are jobless or just new grad who have lot of spare time. Just my observations
Blind is a circlejerk
If they need 2 days of practicing the question to answer it, they aren't that smart
I think you should reread what OP said and reconsider who is or isn't smart here. They said two days of practicing leetcode, not a single question. Maybe you're the one that's not that smart, considering this was your order of actions 1. You misread the post 2. Based on your misreading, you thought that smart people practiced a single question for two days 3. Didn't question this despite it being illogical. Instead of rereading what OP said, you posted this comment.
Yawn. I hope OP reads this bro
