I would want to be in your position when am nearing retirement
But what if ones first job feels like a retirement job?
Chase has amazing WLB at least right? Figure out your purpose outside work and do that. That's what I'm missing right now due to bad WLB.
"To each their own", I guess. And, you are right. We have plenty of VPs, Product Management here that were Meta TPMs before. When I ask them why'd one come to Chase from Meta, their answer is either they moved for better WLB or they were let go.
Yes. Everything is a tradeoff. Sometimes I day dream about going back to my previous high WLB company. But when I talk to them, it sounds like the same dumb problems they were working on when I left. "We are migrating ERPs this year and filling help tickets." I think the only way to work on the problems you care about in a work environment that isn't stupid is to start your own thing. In that case the tradeoff is that entrepreneurial problems aren't always fun.
Start enjoying the little things in life. The warmth of sunshine on your face, the taste of morning coffee, the feeling of grass on your foot. Finishing a good book. Night drive in town. Everyone has this idea that their life will finally begin when they have that big TC job, fancy vacation, when they reach that target NW, etc. But those are never guaranteed. The only thing guaranteed is this moment, and you can enjoy it if you choose to.
