I’m just curious? I’ve always loved Disney as a kid and even now as an adult. I always dreamt of being an Imagineer but I’ve been in the Defense field my entire career… Anyone willing to share their experiences? Any DevOps, Cloud, SRE people out there? TC $317k
The pay is trash. They offered <100k TC to my partner for a VHCOL in-person role
Jeez the Mouse is poor af
Yea, comp sucks ass. My role and YOE/education is like 30-50% higher in FAANG, 100% higher at NFLX, and more in cash vs funny money (stock-based comp), although I interviewed for a role at AMZN last year and the TC was shockingly low, base and bonus.
Career from developing machines to kill people to kid theme park rides is wild.
To over simplify and reduce the word “Defense” to your idiotic statement is even more wild…but push on I suppose
Lots of Netflixers went to Disney for the overinflated titles (though the comp is way worse).
I wouldn’t say “lots”, we have more ex-Amazon burnouts than Netflix. But I’m convinced Disney Streaming is where careers come to die. I thought coming here and riding the streaming wave would open up major opportunities, but even before hiring freezes late last year, my hit rate on even HR screens was shockingly low, all else equal, and it’s only got worse since with broader layoffs/etc.
i love the park benefits (free tickets, hotel discounts, and merch/dining discounts) but the pay is not competitive and i just got laid off 🐀🐀
Rip CEO is a 🐈🐈
Got offered $300k+ for 5yoe. More than apple. Depends on the team honestly
What role?
SWE streaming
Pay is horrible. Rare promotions
Extremely rare, seemingly reserved for only the brownnosers and boot lickers, rather than people who are actually qualified and hard working. I’d say in most areas, being a high performer is more likely to prevent you from being promoted, if anything. Culture in most orgs rewards status quo and jumping on the mediocrity train. Nobody likes people who ask tough questions or even dare question the hegemony.
100% truth here! You may even get marked for future layoffs if you ask tough questions! How do I know? personal experience, of course! :)
Im not in tech side but there is severely low morale currently. No one knows who reports to who while the recent reorg is still taking shape right as things were settling in from the last reorg two years ago. Frankly its a shit show with Bob Iger back so unless they throw the bank at you (which from what i know is heavily skewed on RSU comp) look elsewhere.
Morale is shit in tech as well, everywhere in DEE/DEET. Based on his comments last week about siphoning off linear business and doing god knows what with ESPN, we will continue to face a raft of uncertainty unequaled in the TMT space for at least the next 12-24 months if not 36-48
I was offered a job at Disney Orlando recently. Analytics. I didn’t apply-recruiter found me. First recruiter who reached out to me told me one number. After FIVE interviews, then a 3 week wait, he was out on vacation and his peer offered me the job at 7k below what first guy told me. Disney is a bunch of cheap a-holes. Not impressed by the fact that they couldn’t stick to what first recruiter told me, not like the delta was that much money. Didn’t take it partly due to commute/4 days on site. Sucks cause it would have been a super interesting job, and it was an IC who reported to a director so no middle management BS.
I was with you until the last part. Directors here are middle management. A manager at Disney maps to a Director at NBCU, for example.
Good to know. I get the managers and senior managers out of the way. That’s a lot less levels of middle management, anyways…
as others have already said, in general, Disney is where you go to die. It is rare to get promoted, unless you are a brownnose or someone high above likes you very much. If you think you could impress them by working that much harder, more work usually gets dumped on you and for the TC you get, the WLB completely goes out of wack, with no guarantee of promotion.
God it’s honestly killing me right now. I need to get out. All this is so true

Question about women in their 30’s?
I’d be happy to but I don’t work at Disney
