Does anyone else feel LinkedIn is now just a place for spam recruiters posting the same job over and over ? . I would say 1 in 100 requests I get are legit .
Just out of pure curiosity how did you get a job at ebay ? Out of college ? LinkedIn ?
Yup. Out of college through LinkedIn.
The job postings are auto renew for most big companies. There are many really shitty recruiters and agencies out there that spam. That said, those that are good will certainly help you get in the door.
I get a mix of crappy agencies and legit inhouse recruiters from top companies. And those inhouse recruiters are definitely helpful.
Look at how recruiters make money—it can be as simple as just pursuing leads, depending on the agency. And then of course the bonus for putting a candidate into a role can be substantial, but few recruiters are concerned about the fit, either for the company or the person hired. There’s a reason the term “headhunter” exists. LinkedIn as a platform facilitates this behavior, to a degree. I imagine LinkedIn is aware of this issue and I hope they’re working to address it.
Corporate in house recruiters don’t get a bonus for any one hire. In fact, Amazon recruiters get no bonus of any kind, the myth of commission is just that, a myth. You shouldn’t be talking to agency recruiters for big corporate jobs and won’t get contacted by head hunters unless you’re high level.
Yes meant to clarify agency recruiters, not in-house. I find in-house to be way way way better.
I will say all the Amazon recruiters I have talked to have been very helpful and nice .
Nope, LinkedIn works great for me (all legit recruiters) even when I don’t bother filling out any job description. I do have Premium though.
LinkedIn to me is a like a dating website. You post your picture, you write a little about yourself and hope someone out there in world likes your profile enough to ping you for a casual meetup. If all goes well you start dating update your profile with your latest exploits hoping someone better comes along to take you away. You always gotta dress it up a bit if you want to attract that high class hook up.
Not true. Most requests I get are legit. All jobs I have got so far are thanks to Linkedin.
I would say improve your profile then.
Good point
