LinkedIn imposter

I know it’s a game and I know everyone wants to land a good job. But I feel very repulsive when saw people exaggerate their level and put in LinkedIn as ex-googler, Stanford, MIT, ex-youtube, ex-meta, M2, D1, director, CPA, PhD, Dr, Ted talker, Influencer Blah Blah Blah. They exaggerate their level, length of a company, role, and influence than it actually is. I sense desperation to land a high profile job even though they aren’t qualified, and major narcissistic vibe. What does this people actually think? Does this actually work?? This seems much more common in PM, or management than ENG role.

They think they are worth it. Your ranting here won't change anything.

It’s a pretty tight community. Stuff like this has a way of catching up with them pretty quickly.

The villain from superman??

Netflix hjhs Jan 24, 2023

Lol that reminds me someone that I saw today bragging how 3 years ago he got promoted at Netflix to Staff engineer… 3 years ago we only had one engineer level across all the company: senior Software engineer…

Lol I saw that too from the data engineer at Airbnb? I thought Netflix didn't do leveling and questioned it, but quickly moved on lol.

😂 I think we are talking about the same guy!

I see a lot of hate on "ex-companyname", but as long as it's true, I think it's fair game. Now if they lie about being there, or if they lie about how long they were there or their position there, that's a completely different situation

Someday I will go join X once Elon Musk creates the company, work for a day and quit, just so I can be ex-X

People fake resumes more than LinkedIn profile

What do you think LC does - it is the ultimate way to fake your way into another job. What's being described on Li is often far more real. However, answering x number of random code exercises doesn't make you a capable engineer. Where's your outrage about that?

What’s your title on your resume for Meta?

Microsoft tirC50 Jan 24, 2023

I don't take offense... Many of the hiring managers are also overselling thier positions...
