Currently a Senior at LinkedIn data infra org. TC 460k due to stock appreciation. Got an E5 offer at FB: 200k base 15% bonus 800k RSUs and 100k sign on. TC 455k. YOE 11 I will get to cliff at LinkedIn in 1 year and Staff promotion may not happen within 1 year. I am very interested in FB and I dont mind putting long hours. I am only interested in core infra teams at FB like ads infra, video infra, feed infra, search infra, messaging infra or instagram infra. I have spent many years in infra and I am not interested in other areas. I have heard that it is cutthroat competetion in FB infra teams. Question: I want to work hard and do well at FB. But if for any reason I get meets most or a PIP do I have to wait for 5 years to get back to FB even for a manager role? I will easily go back to LinkedIn and in the long run I am interested in management options. If I get PIPed out will I have to wait for 5 years even if I want to join FB as a manager? Please dont tell me there are tons of options and I dont really have to go to FB again. I am a very big fan of FB and Zuck and I just love their products. Thanks in advance
Congratulations! Those offer numbers 🤩
That’s a strong E5 offer. Highest I’ve heard of. Take it!
Awesome offer. Did you have competing?
Why cliff? Doesn’t refreshers keep u in same band?
455k is way out of band for senior.
I am sure that would be high for staff as well. I joined 2016 as Senior with appreciation a bit under 400.
Is this offer negotiated? Did you have competing offers or just reference your current comp?
I had other offers from Apple, amazon etc
If you’re that concerned about a PIP, you can always quit when you feel you’ll get one abs cone back to Linkedin. Btw what’s your TC breakdown at the time of offer?
If you get piped you'll never get hired again at FB. HR has a confidential list of ex employees they never want to hire and piped employees are at the top of that list at FB. The best bet after pip is to either come back to LinkedIn or try other companies. 460k TC at Sr is amazing. Must have joined when msft was at 70.
If this is the case I don’t want to kill myself as an E5 when I am getting a good TC as a Senior in a very good infra team at LinkedIn and when I have a path for staff and then eventually management. I might as well get that 650k TC as an M1.
@eazsss: After bootcamp what is the guarantee that I will get a good infra team. Will infra teams have openings all the time ?
yes, always need more engineers
Hi, new here, can someone please describe what people do in infra teams? The reason I am asking is because many teams might call themselves infra and do different kinds of work - writing core distributed systems code ( consensus protocols, implement file systems, distributed databases), building services (using caches, databases, other services to write their own middleware service on which other teams depend on), devops, etc. Which of these or any other if I missed is the key to faster growth in career and TC?
the pips are overrated. ask any of your tons of exLinkedin colleagues at FB.
Is PIP a myth?
extremely rare. Go do a search on blind for FB pip threads started by FB employees. Now compare that to Amazon.
