What are your thoughts on interning at Amazon vs LinkedIn? I'm also hoping to get a return offer for full-time too. I've heard Amazon return offer rate is higher than LinkedIn's but I've also heard the team matching at Amazon can be hit or miss. Does anyone have any insights into career progression at both these companies? #software #engineering #swe #internships #newgrad
Can you do both? Do one of them in the Spring/Fall
unfortunately, I can only do one in Fall :/ although I can try to shorten it to 8 weeks but I am not sure if it'll worth it given ramping up virtually is slightly harder!
Make it a poll and see how LinkedIn wins!
Depends on what you are looking for. I know someone who joined Amazon as entry level grad, pay is way below what LinkedIn pays. From what I know for entry level LinkedIn pays way better than Amazon. Also, join LinkedIn if you want a life, work life balance is terrible at Amazon.
Ah yeah I've heard that too! How has career progression been for you at LinkedIn and for your wife at Amazon? Do you have opportunities to move vertically or horizontally? Thank you again - really appreciate it!
Career progression really depends on the team you are in. But in both the companies you’ll always have opportunities to switch teams internally but it might not be as immediate as you think. Since you are joining as a junior in both the companies you can expect a promotion in 2 year span. If you are not worried about pay or work life balance you’ll have a lot to learn in Amazon.
I would suggest you to go to LinkedIn. If you intern at Amazon, you will come to know the stress and anyways you will try to avoid it later. Make it a poll and you can see LinkedIn winning.
Thank you for your insight! Ah that's a fair point - would you know how smooth the internal team transfers are at Amazon incase the team culture is stressful?
Internal transfer is a bit risky. You may get pipped if the away team manager declines your offer after providing verbal offer. So, there is a lot of politics going on. You can check some posts regarding internal transfer in Blind.
In general, Linkedin's return offer rate used to be high around 80%. But, it dipped last year, due to hiring slowdown, down to around 20-30%. Afaik, Amazon's return offer rate has always been around 60%.
Many of the interns ended up getting return offers later on
I worked at both companies. Ended up hating both for different reasons. Looking back i would pick Amazon as there might be a higher chance to learn something (if you instead value company closing weeks then pick LinkedIn). Disclaimer: in both companies, it really depends on the team/org. Since you didn't provide that info, you should ignore every single piece of advice on thia thread.
LinkedIn definitely - you would not believe how dire it is in Amazon.
Add Poll. I'd suggest LinkedIn anyday.
