I have offers from Uber and LinkedIn (also others, but mainly considering these two). Any advice appreciated! Uber (L4) 320K (even RSU split) + 40k signon + High impact project (mission critical team) + High scale problem (technically interesting) + at HQ and I'm happy to commute there (team also goes, which I like face-to-face) + Higher stock upside post recession...? - Riskier in this economy. Likely more downside to stock from recession - Worse benefits (no 401k match, LI offers 50% which is +10k a year) LinkedIn (L4) 307.5K + 20k signon + decent team. Horizontal product team, so collabing with a lot of other teams + LinkedIn perks and benefits are fantastic + 401k match (+10k) and $2000 wellness stipend seems pretty nice - worried about career growth - most team are WFH, so doesn't even matter if I commute to office. Anyone know how office culture is like? My factors: - career growth (leveled at high L4, so want to get to staff/L5a asap) - project - want to have fun; I like working with people or participating in company events. Though maybe optimistic to think to make meaningful friendships at companies? But I feel like Uber could provide that for me? - still young and no dependents, so stability is slightly less of a factor My heart leans Uber but my brain leans LinkedIn. Any advice would be helpful! Tc: 270K Loc: SF Yoe: 6
Uber you're going to be LIFO'd as soon as layoffs kick in. LinkedIn still makes only money on job ads so only slightly safer
LinkedIn makes money with more than just ads
Really? Genuinely curious
LinkedIn has no refreshers so I would go with Uber
Oh really? My recruiter say they do but that was on the phone. Guess I'll double check
They do for like top 5%. Uber has normal refreshers.
LinkedIn for stability
uber for upside
Debatable… Uber has never been through a recession
op can you tell us the levels these offers are for? if that’s uber 5a it is low and you def should negotiate
They're same level, L4. Edited
ok then consider another option of just waiting and interviewing for senior level next year. you have enough yoe
Why LinkedIn is more stable? They also layoff in 2020.
It wasn't in tech iirc
This is where personal preference comes into play. I would go with LinkedIn for stability but sounds like Uber is more suitable for you. At this stage you can afford to take risks for growth and more interesting work if you have the tolerance.
Thanks, I'm feeling this way too... might do Uber for sake of no regrets later on in my life
Vote for Uber for more interesting projects
I am 6 years and got L5A at uber. I think you can try for L5A
Job before Amazon wasnt great, so am catching up! I definitely tried though
what’s the tc they offered VMware?
Uber front loads RSU and targets refreshers to have comp >= first year, so I think comp will be more than even RSU split
The TC would seem too inflated from that split, so made even split for more fair comparison. That said, makes upside more attractive
What’s your first year TC without signon bonus?
Doesn’t Uber freeze hiring already?
Freezing "most" hiring. Got my offer some time ago and org seems important enough to warrant hiring
Nope, interesting see people talk about this a lot, but we are still hiring.
