Living like a robot

I go to office, attend meetings, do work come back, watch netflix and sleep. Only thing that makes me happy are zumba classes or badminton over the weekend, which give me momentary happiness. I got all i wanted so far, good work in ML, career growth at a fast rate, good investments, net worth of > 1m. But i miss my country quite a bit, the everyday fun back in my hometown (india), the social life. I miss feeling happy. Apologize the ranting but is there anyone else who feels this way?

There are plenty of “robots” in Bay Area. Not all of them miss home (overseas). You are not alone.

Whats the point of life if its so mechanical

Arista Networks unVS80 Aug 10, 2018

Not all of them miss home - what do you mean here?

I hear you! Particularly in Bay Area I feel sorry for many people around me. They work, eat, sleep, work...infinite loop. When they hang out they talk about tc, rsu, real estate and NASDAQ... really sad

LinkedIn vmdF24 OP Aug 9, 2018

Those are my exact topics!

After this you hardly find time for yourself, you will forget what the boring life would be

If your net worth is 1 mi then why don’t you try relocating to somewhere else where you can find more fun around? 1 mi is enough anywhere especially in India. I’ve been to the valley and I have to agree. It’s boring as hell.

LinkedIn vmdF24 OP Aug 9, 2018

Did u relocate? Its v difficult currently if you are career oriented and have the greed to earn more. I am to blame cause i know the solution is relocating but my work quality and compensation keeps me from doing that. I am also below 30 so i feel i can do that ultimately wen i grow older, currently i should work more and grow in career. And if i feel like a robot then i should probably suck it up and let it pass as a phase. But this doesnt feel that sustainable

I understand. It’s tough when we are career oriented. How about nyc, la and sf city in that order? I’m in a better city than Palo Alto, but it is still pretty boring.

I feel this also but I'm from California. Still feel the isolation but perhaps slightly different. I miss the close contact with friends and family that I used to have. I feel like I'm waiting for my life to begin. It's depressing to think that this day in day out grind...is it. There's no jumping off point coming up that's going to change everything and stir my life up. If I just keep it up then I'm going to grow older and older in isolation.

Funny thing is, if you try to go back to your previous life you'll see it's not there anymore. People change, become busier, move, etc.

Uber NodeJS Aug 10, 2018

Are you from Southern California?

Microsoft Hzuwbczh Aug 9, 2018

I'm in the same boat. But I think on the positive side, would you be able to work for LinkedIn in India? Would you get paid as much or get this good quality of projects or quality of life. It's a very tough trade off and priorities matter a lot. But I haven't seen who's been here for 8 yrs saying this, they usually tend to like it here and never plan on going back.

Microsoft Hzuwbczh Aug 9, 2018

Also get married and things will feel much better..

LinkedIn Randnum Aug 10, 2018

“netflix and sleep” => There is your problem, because people “netflix and chill and sleep”

LinkedIn vmdF24 OP Aug 10, 2018

Lol

LinkedIn Randnum Aug 10, 2018

Yep.. All work and no play makes one a dull gal. That’s the truth.
