Lockheed Martin Hiring Process

Recently applied via the website to a Level 6 role at Lockheed in manufacturing. Heard they don't like to hire these roles from the outside. My current comp is $255k. Recruiter asked my salary expectations and I said it was inline with my current salary. My application is now in "Resume Under Review" status. My questions: - Is it true they don't like hiring people from outside for these roles? - Is my comp already outside of the band? - Would I automatically be rejected if my salary expectations were too high? In other words, would not have been pushed to resume under review? #lockheedhiring

Going to be hard to hit that TC at Lockheed, even for L6

Yeh I second this. I highly doubt they will match that TC.

LMI can't afford to pay manufacturing employees that sort of TC without the US Government penalizing them for 'poor cost controls.' They would have to pay a significant portion as a General & Administrative cost (vs direct manufacturing cost) which usually goes towards corporate functions like executives, sales, accounting, legal, etc. The USG also audits G&A as a percentage of overall cost so there generally isn't room to pay any but the most exceptional direct employees from G&A (e.g. if you are the only living candidate with specialized experience that a contract requires). Basically, Uncle Sam dictates a ceiling on what people are allowed to earn wherever the USG is a customer. It's a major reason for tech workers to avoid legacy defense contractors. The same concept applies to government jobs having a similar pay ceiling, which is partly why the federal government has access to such a small fraction of the nation's top tech talent.

Thanks for the feedback. Super helpful.

If that doesn't work out, try Leidos, BAE systems, or Leonardo DRS. I'll try Leonardo first. Lockheed is on the downswing right now, and don't work for Boeing.
