I recently missed out on a lead UX role to a candidate with more experience in the company's specific industry so I can't blame them but I was pretty excited for this role because of all of the boxes it checked. 10+ year old company 1000ish employees Base of 200k+ 15% bonus paid quarterly 600k in stocks pre-negotiation Fully remote Basically a company that is relatively stable, big enough to share the workload unlike a startup and in turn have decent or great WLB, and still have what I would consider a really great salary for a non-FANG company. Anyone have suggestions for similar companies? I've not opposed to FANG but as someone who lives in the Midwest and will always be remote I've found it to not be the best fit mutually. I'm open to various industries and I also realize economically that now may not be the best time to make a move so I'm being extra cautious with that in mind. I like 500-1500 type size companies generally because there's actually a UX team and you won't get worked to death and they're usually looking for people like me who can help with process, ops, design systems, etc. on top of regular deliverables. Might be asking a lot but just thought I'd ask. Thanks! YOE - 10 TC - 170k (low I know, but good for only being in that Midwest and fully remote before the pandemic)
Imagine thinking 170k is low… in the Midwest. 🥲
Haha well yeah, it's not low for the Midwest. I work for a company that's out of NYC now that everyone can be remote. My goal, obviously from this post, is to make closer to FANG comp now that we're all remote and new opportunities are available. I'd basically like slightly higher base and have stocks be part of my comp, I've had no stocks the last couple places I've worked and it stinks lol. With two kids and inflation it's hard to build that nest egg without having stocks you can just let grow and invest.
Procore won’t give you that many RSUs probably, but checks a few of these boxes
I finally had a chance to dig into Procore more. It looks like a really cool product/service. Are for there currently? Willing to make a referral? Only position open is senior designer on design systems which isn't my preferred area to be in. So if you are there and in design perhaps you can provide further insight here or via DM. Thanks!
Airbnb
I haven't always heard good things about design at Airbnb. I've heard it can be highly political and WLB isn't often great. I imagine it depends on team I guess. Are you there currently?
I think Slack should check a lot of these boxes
Even post SF acquisition?
I would assume they're on a hiring freeze like SF.
