Hello, I am a systems/reverse engineer for a defense contractor. I used to work at Verizon as a network and security engineer. I would like to move into a new role eventually as a program or project manager. I’m not really sure where I’d be the best fit but I love working with my coworkers and interacting with our customer. I’ve been told that I “make people better” and truly care about the well being of my coworkers. I feel like it’s time for me to really push my self to get into a leadership position but at my current company it seems as though it won’t happen unless someone leaves or retires. Lastly, my idea is to work at a large company that’s not in defense to hopefully be able to grow and pivot to a leadership position. I could really use advice for potential jobs and recommendations for companies that truly invest in their employees. Thank you. YOE: 9 years TC: 145k #engineer #newjob #recommendation #advice #career
If you have a security clearance, leverage it. Microsoft, Google and Amazon pay a premium for clearances in their government groups. You sound ideal for a solution architect or product management role as you like to work with people. Once you are established, you can move to a lead and then management role.
