Might move to LA from the east coast. Wife no kids. We both work remote. What area for a $900k budget would you recommend, ie Pasadena, Hermosa, go further south, east etc. I know this is subjective so if you grew up in LA or live there now what city are you in and is there any reason you’d recommend it?
Is the $900k for a condo or a house?
If you’re both remote, why tf would you move to LA? As someone who grew up there, I can say that the place is a cesspool. If you have to move to Southern California, move or Orange County. Someplace like Laguna beach . If you absolutely have to be a in LA , move to Arcadia, Agoura Hills or someplace like that. There’s nothing special about Pasadena. You also do not want to live in LA proper (within city limits).
Orange County is a cultural wasteland, but beautiful.
I love LA and the city, wouldn't touch OC with a 10 foot pole tho
I wouldn't buy. Rent a nice place near the beach (or mountains or food or Disneyland or whatever you like) and get to know the city.
I grew up east coast and spent last 10 years in la. Now mostly just travel internationally full time. Don’t move to Cali on 900k budget. You’ll be so much happier and the money will go a lot farther literally anywhere else.
Don't go East LA. Try anything south LA. Pasadena around Colorado st is also ok.
Playa Vista is nice area.
Playa Vista is a nice oasis
$900k isn’t enough to buy anything worth owning. Rent, make more money, then buy. Also definitely move west. The east coast absolutely blows.
What’s sucks about the east coast
What do you want to prioritize? Nightlife? Access to outdoors? Schools for if/when you have kids? Etc Do you have friends/family in LA you want to see regularly? If so where do they live? Traffic in LA is hellish at all hours so you'll want to factor in proximity to friends/family Are you looking for condo or SFH? I don't think you'd be able to get a SFH for 900k in Hermosa or decent parts of Pasadena. I'm from LA and lived there in my 20s. Personally if I were remote I'd move to North County San Diego instead of LA. Unless you work in/love the Hollywood scene, it's not a very pleasant place to live.
If you’re already married, OC is a no-brainer.

Update: Trans Coworker Stealing Breast Milk
I loved the Manhattan Beach / Hermosa Beach / El Segundo areas when I lived there, also Playa del Rey thought that was several years ago at this point
Nice enough areas but too built up for my tastes. I actually really like redondo beach , but again, too built up. I actually love Ventura county (just north of Los Angeles county) but it’s too much of a drive if you have to commute. That and it’s not actually “LA” , I. The case of the OP.
