So I currently work as a technical recruiter and I’m trying to make a career pivot into software development. I enjoy the challenge of coding and the mental complexity that is involved. However, I have a really hard time going home after working a full day and then practicing algorithms and data structure problems. I’ve started to lose confidence in my ability to be a developer as it seems like to enter the field you need to eat, sleep and breath code. Have any of you made a transition like this? It’s been emotionally taxing for me.
That's why you have to make some sacrifices in life to obtain what you strive for, and many give up mid way.
It takes time to pick it up. And even when you have very stable schedule everyday on practicing problems, there will be time when u just couldn’t focus or thinking u are just a dumb fuck. It’s normal. These are the moments that you learn and grow the most. As long as u don’t give up.
It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everybody would be doing it.
You need a break. You can't keep burning the candle at both ends. Take a few weeks off, have some fun and get some sleep.
I can teach you if you agree to interview me for the role
Maybe connect with other developers. It’s so much easier to make these types of changes when you are surrounded by a group of people who are already practicing the skills that you are looking to develop.
