Losing interest in everything

I crossed 40 and I feel depressed. I am losing my interest in everything and mostly questioning my choices like why I moved to the US in first place. I wish I stayed in India with my parents. There are tons of regrets that I can't get over . How to deal with regrets?

Why not move back? You are only 40

You can’t avoid regrets. So accept them. And let them go.

You're not ugly. God made you. Your parents and theirs birthed you and your ancestors. That means you're attractive and worthy to be here. Chin up, find God and do something good for others who can never repay you or reward you. You will soon feel better

That was wholesome, thank you.

Move to India if that is an option. Pick a company where you could coast like ours, take care of your parents and family. I am sure you will feel a lot better. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I was in a similar place, just talk to a therapist. This is a surprisingly generic problem. Talking to a professional really helps! I wasted YEARS on self-help bs before I decided to try normal therapy. I was really surprised by how it worked for me.

Where you got therapy from?

I left the US in my early 30s due to the same reasons. I regretted my decision. I didn't find happiness back home. Low salaries, bad government, ignorant people around you. Then I moved to Europe. Here, salaries are lower compared to the US with higher taxes, and language barriers. So, there is still emptiness in my life. Now I am in my early 40s, married, have kids, and moving back to the US. I feel like there is still some miles in me and I can cope with the challenges in the US. My plan is to make as much money in 10 years and coast for the rest of the time in a country of choice. Everyone is different. Moving countries might help forgetting or avoiding some of the problems. But deeper problems will follow you wherever you go. So, it is important to try your best wherever you are. Best of luck.

Google fyun OP Apr 27

Aren't salaries in India good now? And better than EU? Where are you in EU?

Hubspot hbdkdh Apr 27

Probably, but I am not from India. I am located in Germany.

Realize that you never had a choice. There is evidence from Physics and Neuroscience that libertarian free will is an illusion. We are evolutionarily hardwired to believe in free will, so it's not easy to get rid of that illusion. But, if you spend enough time studying the scientific evidence deeply, you will be able to counter the illusion. After that, all your regrets will melt away.

It's important to remember life has phases and you will one day feel the opposite of how you're feeling now. If you need to stay here despite wishing you were back in India, try to evaluate what kind of changes you need to make here. Your mental state will follow, as long as you make positive changes first. A lot of us have been through this and we sympathize with you.
