Hi! Wanted to solicit consensus opinion on how to increase TC. I'm currently working in sales ops (4 YoE) at Salesforce making ~$120k and am getting great performance reviews. My background and previous roles have been in finance. However, I'm not too happy with the pay trajectory in this role having been here for a year and wanted to ask consensus opinion on what to do. Options: 1. Do nothing - do well and just try and climb the ladder faster 2. Switch role at Salesforce - unclear which departments would pay more or frankly what to pivot to. Product management is always popular but seems like a stretch assignment vs current role 3. Switch company - Could make more in another tech company, but I'm on a working visa, am in the process of getting my green card, and just switched to Salesforce a year ago. Trump has also made it difficult changing employers. 4. Grad school - JD. I've always been intrigued by the idea of biglaw (and did well on an LSAT diagnostic test without studying) which would be a 180 degree pivot. I was initially scared off by unemployment but seems like you can derisk by getting into Top 5 school. MBA doesn't seem super worth it + doesn't seem like you learn much. Both options would incur a ton of debt but a corporate lawyer comes out making a decent chunk of money. I'm not particularly passionate about any specific company, so it's much harder when you don't feel strongly one way or the other. Can and do work with numbers but feel like data science or a SWE boot camp would be something I'd hate. What should the next step look like? TC $120k / 4 YoE #career #tech #salesforce #gradschool
Build a trading bot using weather data from www.hfirweather.com
Are you trading oil?
Yes! But not often. My main focus is algorithmic trading for natural gas using a weather api.
1) Get your green Card 2) Switch to PM role if you can, if you want to optimize for $$ vs something you’re passionate about. This role probably pays the most in Valley for non-eng And if you can’t make the switch, try to grow within your ladder and jump/skip/hop after your GC to eventually get to Director level
Go do sales at a startup and grind your ass off to get a director/vp title and lead that sales department like a boss. Then pivot back into big tech as a sales team manager. Farm your employees commission like a boss.
Im in the same boat here in terms of feeling stuck in increasing $. Im interested in moving to Sales ops but dont think that’ll change my comp given that pay grade is similar. Do you know that you cant really negotiate when transferring internally at Salesforce? Heard from a few folks. Unless, you transferred to a more senior role in that case it is like getting promoted. PM at Salesforce seems technical - spoke to a few folks and they all have very techical background. Get your green card and then jump ship. Salesforce pay is on a lower end compared to other tech. How do you like working in sales ops? I work in analytics and interested in sales ops, thinking that it’ll be more interesting work/ impact than my current role
