I received an offer for the Operations Strategy senior manager - a business role - at Lyft in San Francisco. The offer is $170K base; 200K RSUs / 4 years I have a top tier MBA and an Ivy League PhD (in a non-Computer Science field) and 11 years of experience (4 years of top tier consulting experience + 7 in a non-Tech blue chip firm) Appreciate gratefully thoughts on the initial offer and negotiation.
It seems low. A friend of mine joined an unicorn with 4 years experience in a dev role with 250K comp. Anyways RSUs are paper money for you now, so maximize base. Don't settle for anything less than $200K base.
$170k is insanely low. Isn’t it low compared to what you were making?
In my experience, Lyft starts the negotiations low. You're a businessman, I'm sure you can strike a deal ;)
Seems reasonable for a non-technical role.
Unbelievably low, even for a non technical role. 11 yes of experience with a top tier MBA should have put you above $200K several years ago IMHO.
Cash bonuses? Or is the 170 all the cash you’re getting? If the latter this is very low. I make 170 cash with only 6 years of experience in strategy role (also top MBA)
Hey OP, is it too late to get an MBA once you hit 31?
For the role, that’s solid comp. Sorry, no one cares about your MBA.
Yes 👏👌👆 Same is not true in my company tho 😞
Dude - I was in process for the same role! Current comp (which I shared with them) is much higher, so they told me their upper limit and asked if I was still interested. I ended up bailing out. Happy to share #s via PM. Generally speaking, their comp limit felt low compared to market for 4 yrs post MBA in the Bay Area - but unless you have an alternative offer, or are prepared to turn them down and keep looking, market rate is irrelevant.
I think it’s rare for tech companies to care about your MBA or even any advanced degree that’s not directly related to the job. Even a masters in CS for a dev job only gets you a 10k pay bump, and only from the largest FANG companies.
You can join Hootsuite! They love non-technical people.
But we get paid 120k CND top. Oh wait, how about our stock options? It worth 3x less than a banana 🍌
