That sounds like a good offer instead of laying off directly.
The net impact of this is they'll be expected to do everything they were doing before plus writing code.
And their performance measurement will be just ambiguous enough to rate them lower and lower until they leave. Welcome to URA my friend.
No it won’t, they won’t be managing people anymore.
Nice, start contributing or leave. Except some, most managers are sitting on their asses and joining useless meetings anyway. Most probably they will end up getting PIPed as doing IC job not a cake walk if it has been long time since you were hands on.
I would like to hear the perspective of a Meta employee, as opposed to the ambiguously named Financial Services Company employee. Meta isn't known for rest and vest. I'd be surprised if managers there have just been chilling.
Not gonna happen, you only have my perspective, they are busy getting back on coding and being IC.
I hope my employer would do the same.
So happy my management was laid off recently
SWEs are happy. Well not so fast. Now these non contributors will become engineers and eat up the already few vacancies in this tight market which in turn is bombarded with waves layoffs. Sad news for laid off guys
Layoffs will continue, just not in mass
First to be laid off will be the low performing ex-Managers 🤣
My manager is panicking already lmao. Most EMs at Meta have zero technical skill, they are just professional politicians.
Yes met a few at a party, all they could talk about was “how I carefully got a peer to lean in to me for guidance and then got him to report to me”, “I Am so good at performance reviews”. “People in other companies are coasters”
@Meta, is the expectation that all EMs start coding to avoid firing, or is the expectation that targeted EMs with low count of reports role-transfer to IC or leave?
Worse than being laid off. Not sure if they get nov package or less.
Would love to see how Riley Rojas manages to do technical IC work.
PM is a IC role
Lol- we have two many managers who couldn’t do IC work. Just a fact.
Does Microsoft have too many SWEs who can’t use the proper “too”?
Bro I’m typing into my phone and it auto-changed 2 -> two. Are you a salty manager with a firm mastery of written English who understand “they’re/there/their” but can’t comprehend Java dependency injection? Good luck in your next career field.
Noice
Zuck is great, very similar to musk in the approach to managers.
Why is zuck great? He allowed this to happen in first place.
