Will there be any benefit of doing MS in Computer Science or MS in any hot particular field related to CS like Data Science, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security etc. If a person had already cracked SDE-1 job in a top product based Company?? #swe #software #engineering
following
It depends on your goals. MS is not just about fetching better jobs. A 2 year solid experience at any decent company can more than make up for that. You should do MS not for the increased job prospects but if: i) you want to move to a different country and they have an immigration pathway through studies there. ii) you want to evaluate if a research career, a PhD, or an academic career is for you. iii) you want to seriously upgrade the university on your resume, when the current ones aren't getting you anywhere. Networking with alumni and your classmates can be very helpful in your long term career.
How networking helps in swe career? Referrals are easy to come by
While at University, you can make friends. There's a huge difference between a random referral and a friend. Friend will advocate for you, prioritise you over others and sometimes even create opportunities for you. It's not about 'getting a job'. It's about building relationships with smart people and support each other over decades of your careers.
I see 2 benefits of ms. 1. You genuinely want to expand your knowledge in a certain area and are using ms to do that. As long as university is good, you should be good. 2. Immigration. You are using ms as a pathway to explore a nation and later immigrate. In that case it makes a lot of sense and university ranking is not as relevant.
