MS in Finance

Please help. My brother is planning to pursue his MS in finance from USA. He is currently in India. He has an admit from UTD. Can experienced people suggest about the field, university and job market. What is internship, full time and sponsorship scenario for international student who do MS in Finance from USA. All suggestions will help. Also is UNCC a good college to consider over UTD? Any other colleges recommended for MS in Finance? Note: He completed 3 years BCOM 2 years Post Graduation in Finance About 1.5 years experience in a startup in Finance (Tourism)

Finance in the US as an international student, doesn't like a good idea. Would advise him to try different country instead of the US.

Reason and suggestion?

American companies hire indian engineers because there is a dearth of engineers in the US because Americans shy away from engineering. Same does not hold true for finance. There are enough Americans to do finance related jobs. They don't need your brother for the same. Sorry if I am sounding rude but 2-3 friends of mine who did finance from top universities had to return back to India. Ask him to try for UK, Europe, Canada and Australia

Currently MA in Finance student (final year) job market is tough for FAANG or any corporate jobs, but if he wants to land a job in investment banks and finance oriented firms, I think opportunities are there.

I have a friend from finance peogram at UTD. It is pretty great program and well recognized university. For finance, if his scores are good, he may consider Wharton, UT Austin.

I think rather than Ms Finance, he should do MBA with a minor in finance and Quantitative studies . Incase he’s unable to get finance jobs post graduation, he can easily get PM roles in tech companies.

MS in finance is a bit of an odd place. For quantitative skills firms would rather hire people with degrees in math finance, financial engineering, ops research etc. For business skills firms would rather hire MBA. Suggest your brother go for either if he can.

Internship, full time, job scenario depends completely on the individual and their efforts in applying effectively, networking and being ready for interviews

Doesn't matter what you do MS in. Just make sure you get 3 years STEM OPT.
