EDIT: Since some people are asking: Stanford's results aren't out yet—CMU's are. Apologies for any confusion What are the pros and cons of each of these programs in terms of curriculum/rigor, industry prospects, academia (PhD) prospects, etc. Given the choice, which one would you pick? (These are the full-time/on-campus programs) #leetcode
Lol the tag #leetcode
I couldn't resist
Go Stanford man, why would you pay the same for less prestige, harsher weather, less networking opportunities (not to say cmu is bad, just inferior) and distance from the job market? Both schools can offer much more challenges than what students can bear, so what you should be asking is how to get the most out of your time there.
Is OP Indian?
Can confirm, why?
Because that might the only place where both programs are considered similar (prompting this poll). Indian here. Congratulations on the admits btw.
Wow those are pretty great options. I am a CMU alum but I think everything considered, Stanford might be better in this particular case.
Can I DM you?
Sure
You can't be serious.
Why not?
Because Stanford is Stanford.
Thank you Mr. Ng
Stanford is slightly better imo. Consider the weather my friends hated the CMU winter and it is depressing. Stanford Masters is also more exclusive, CMU has a bunch of different masters programme which spoils the exclusivity. Finally over the long run it hardly makes a difference, almost any opportunity you get at Stanford you get at CMU but Stanford is slightly better.
While it's true that CMU has a bunch of programs, I'm specifically referring to their Master of Science in Computer Science program. It's their most exclusive one (along with MS in Machine Learning) Thanks for the other info though
Yeah even for their MSCS program their are still huge number of people, just do a linkedin sesrch on avg the profile of Stanford Masters is better. Regarding courses and industry prosepects its a tie though clearly at Stanford you can do more startupy things but for established companies they dont discriminate at all betwern Stanford and CMU.
Stanford Alum here. It really depends on what you want to learn. Weather and opportunities are good at Stanford. CMU has better courses and the tag should get you more opportunities as well. Since you have mentioned PhD opportunities, getting into PhD at Stanford would be challenging as opposed to CMU. And if you have PhD or research or academia in mind, keep aside the brand names, genuinely advise looking at professors and their work because you wouldn’t want to do PhD under a professor if you don’t like them, just because of brand name, even if it is Stanford, as I saw relatively decent number of PhD students struggle and drop out. Finally, congratulations on your admits.
Have a professor with similar research interests would get priority if you're thinking PhD.
Can you please share your Portfolio which got you into these prestigious colleges?

MSX, do it.
Is it distance ? Or in person
In person
Stanford is better in that case not only because of the courses but also because of the brand and great network it will go a long way in your career
