Happy new year to all the blind community. Suggestions needed to become a good performer in a new job. I will be joining MSFT soon as an sde2. So what are some of the skills I should refresh or acquire in order to do a better job. Any technical skills that will make me stand apart. TC: 195k
Avoid Blind as much as you can!
Be in the good book of a principal at least a senior. If nobody is looking out for you, you won’t get the impactful work. At Microsoft, people hog good projects and it mostly handled by seniors and principals. SDE 1 and 2 are worker bees at the mercy of them. Thank me later. I learned the hard way and the reason I couldn’t shine there.
Thank you . Any tech skills that I should be acquiring or refresh my memory with ?
C#. That’s all you need.
Salesforce to MSFT ?
Are you currently at SF ?
Yes
Congrats. How much TC increase you got ?
Success at Microsoft has a lot to do with the relationships you build with your peers, manager, and skip. Don’t think being smart and writing good code is all there is to it.
Like in all other companies, and not only tech. LOL
I found Microsoft to be even more so because of the politics. When deciding your contribution for rewards, they are most likely to ask your peers and managers rather than spending any time looking at your code contributions. So kicking butt writing outstanding tight code to solve gnarly problems doesn’t always save you. The work had better be high profile and valued by the others or your career will stall unfortunately.
What’s your YOE and TC at SF ?
I am assuming you are at Bellevue office?
Microsoft?? Learn how to pass time. Download a couple of games to your phone. Find a new hobby 😜
you are L61 or 62? Ability to drive the project and knowing details, contacting relevant teams/team members to get dependencies resolved and work done. At the same time, resolve the defects as well as write clean , efficient, readable code. Along with that, better to be good with peers. Are you coming to Redmond or will be in bay area. How much TC increase you got ?
