For those who moved from MS to Meta, pros? cons? regrets? no regrets? culture differences? And what was your base salary and TC jump? And how do benefits stack up? #microsoft #meta
You should not move below a 40% hike if you have a good wlb at Msft.
pros: much smarter developers here, way more talent, engineering bar is definitely higher. comp is better even with stock drop. cons: higher bar for promotion w/ more talent, can’t get by with just politics as you actually have to produce, have to work more then 30 hours a week usually
"much smarter developers here" is an exaggeration. That might be the case for the teams that you worked on, but generalizing that is just plain wrong. I've worked on plenty of teams at Microsoft, and I worked at Meta. The developers at Meta were not smarter. There were plenty of smart people in both places
Wow Meta is full of jerks.
I wouldn’t make this move personally unless you’re getting a ton more TC
I left for ~30% increase. I like the in-office perks(obviously) and overall environment more, but I was in a really political org at MS. The big detractor is Meta is really at the whim of one man and it’s pretty clear there’s more cuts coming.
Meta perks have been cut but still more than I could imagine at MS. Better tech stack, smarter people and move fast culture. Lots of work and lots of responsibility. You will get promoted if you are delivering, much less politics. If you want to coast MS. If you want to get promotions, move up in career and get ever increasing pay, go for meta. My plan is to get back to MS at around 50yrs of age.
Why not just retire and enjoy life? You should have enough to retire if you work for 10 years @ meta
Took. Break with another company for three years in between. Base salary: MSFT: $162k Meta: $182k Stock (total grant on hire) MSFT: $60k Meta: $160k Bonus MSFT: $22k Meta: $25k Benefits are notably better with Meta, but not enough to justify a change. MSFT had better wlb, but both are reasonable. Really, it depends on your team and projects. MSFT is better for stability. Meta is better for career growth. I love both companies for different reasons.
You lose SF and you gain EA. It's up to you if that's a good trade or not.
Recruiting practice in two companies are totally different, not sure how you came up with this conclusion. In Microsoft, no body cares about recruiter and as a person who got 2 offers from Microsoft, I rarely need to talk to recruiter. They dun seem to have any voice in the process. So I would say it doesn’t make sense for you to make conclusion based on what you saw as a recruiter, because you actually didn’t see much in microsoft :)
Wtf does a recruiter know about any of what you just said. Outside of the first interview call you never speak to the candidate again.
Company outlook wise, Msft is better. But if you just a low level Ic collecting pay check, Meta will give you more $$$$$
It’s around 3 times TC for me, no regrets, unless you’re old and about to retire. Otherwise better career move.
