Currently L3 SWE with 2 yoe. Got Significant Impact (SI) rating for 2023. Manager gave $3k increase in base but only $56k refresh over 4 years. Baseline refresh is $50k and multiplier for SI is 1.25, so expected refresh should have been $62.5k. I’m quite surprised by this and sort of disappointed that my manager could do this. It’s clear he does not want me on the team anymore, or maybe he wants me but knows I’m on a visa so can’t do much. What is the best step forward? I have been down about this since Thursday and can’t get myself to work.
Exactly. They only control rating. Not how much
So who decided to give me lower refreshers? It’s not 6k over 4 years that I’m worried about, it’s more the action of proactively reducing my refresher
Nobody decided to give you lower refresher stock based compensation across the industry is decreasing. The budget for your org was decided by people much higher than your manager
Your manager didn't do anything, a struggling company made a tiny cost cutting decision...
I posted same thing on internal channel and other L3 with same rating and yoe had higher refresher
Why don't you keep this on internal channel where people know what is actually going on? All you are hearing here is you don't know...
Suck it up, buttercup. Come tomorrow, thousands more people are getting a pink slip.
OP received SI rating and I guess it is reasonable to expect better refreshers. Why would be worried about pink slip?
How is it for other team members or for people in your org? I think the process is mostly this way if there’s no multiplier in picture: Your manager and higher ups have a meeting. Manager says opinions on people reporting to them. All of them sit and finalize the rating for those people. Pass to HR on how many top performers or average or low performers are on team/org. HR gives budget to org. Higher manager allocates budgets based on ratings per org. Skip distributes the budget to teams. EMs. EM will now allocate you the amount. I don’t think that the manager will not have a say. If they want, they can fight for you. But if the entire org was allocated a lower budget, your poor manager had nothing against you.
I don't think your manager can do that
Wow that seems to be even lower than Intel due to being over 4 yrs. Didn’t expect Google to become cheapos like us 🤡
What is Intel refresher like for L3 Eng?
Depends on the team. For SWE should be close to what you got or maybe slightly lower higher.
Leave Google.
They only control rating, managers dont control money otherwise it will be a very abusive relationship
Have you been L6+ at Goog?
Have you yourself been one? Meta is right about what he said. Also if you really wanted opinions of just L6+ AT GOOG then stop whining here and ask your manager and skip about the same.
I thought Google had fixed bands

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
What?? Does manager control how much refresh your bonus you get? I mean they control the rating but I doubt they decide the dollar amount
Bonus was as expected with 1.25 multiplier. I’m not 100% my manager changed my equity grant but I don’t know really…
