Today my manager sent me a message on outlook where he says “That’s letter to officially request you to be on time, since you have been consistently late by 10 minutes to office during last week” My work starts at 9:00 , but i came in at 9:10 couple of times during last week since office is very far away from my home. He didn’t discuss it further, any thoughts why do it via email?
Exactly the same happened to my friend. He continued being late and soon got fired. This is no joke, email is likely for evidence I would strongly advice to come on time and document it (by sending emails or anything else traceable)
Find a new job. Send your resignation with “Twinkle Twinkle little star, I am leaving and going far..”. Clearly your manager is an elementary school teacher and will love this.
actually it's the leadership who would have set firing target
Did he ever ask you to come on time verbally? Writing an email if not for documenting is to raise the level of being taken seriously. I don't think it is that difficult to come 10 minutes before 9:10.
my job starts at 9 and i login at 11 and still tagged as top performer. gtfo asap
Should be "I am a top performer so my manager is flexible for me to login at 11 with the job starting at 9", not the other way around.
Do you do that on purpose? Or because you have other priorities? If done on purpose, i would bottle you if i were your manager.
Find a better workplace that respects it’s employees.
Welcome to the 1950s
Shameful… you are fully entitled to being late. Talk to a lawyer to see if you can sue for discrimination.
I'd suggest, 1. Formally requesting that you leave 10 minutes late to makeup for the time you're missing out on 2. Formally documenting when you start showing up to work from tomorrow onwards 3. Frankly, idk if you drive or take public transportation but aiming to leave 10 minutes earlier in the morning for the sake of keeping your job seems worth it to me /shrug But yes, this is a bad sign and you need to make some changes in order to keep your job.
Thing with commuting from far away is that leaving 10 minutes earlier doesn't mean you'll arrive to the office 10 minutes earlier. Even with low variability, it might well be that getting there 10 minutes earlier one has to leave home 30 or more minutes earlier. Add variable conditions to the mix and it's basically wasting a significant amount of your time to ensure you can make it at 9:00. If the job doesn't need strict timetables, such as being at a factory or a retailer, then it's a toxic workplace. GTFO.
This. I wake up at 6a each day, gym for an hour and the earliest I can get to work is 9:20. If I were to leave to get to work by 9, I’d have to have been on the road at 7:30. Glad my bosses aren’t dinosaurs

Find a new job. You don’t need to put up with shit like this. I understand the reason for being on time but this isn’t a doctors appt where there is a cascading impact. It’s work. Long as you do your work and do it correctly. That’s what counts. We all dealt with covid and have had to adjust. So the mindset of at 9am being at the office from your boss is old school.
The problem is that people are usually behind their work, not advanced. It is true that companies exploit people and likely more work is pushed if someone finishes advanced unless the person knows to handle it. However, that gives enough frustration for a manager if seeing his report coming late consistently. Op also didn't mention other details. Is he hourly. What time does he usually leave the office. Does he spend time to work at home to compensate for the difference if having. How are his work deliveries.
I bet his manager isn’t even annoyed of the tardiness. I think either OP isn’t doing good work or the manager just doesn’t like him. What the email does is to start a paper trail documenting bad performance
