I see a lot of managers at Amazon have different backgrounds from what I see at Microsoft and others. Many of them are straight from consulting companies or product managers. The managers I had been only with people whose backgrounds is at big tech company as an engineer then manager. As I am approached by Amazon whose senior managers have backgrounds like above, I am curious to know about pros and cons if you have an experience. Thanks in advance!
Don’t know about Amazon, but it’s annoying when your completely non-technical senior manager promises the client an application with “zero bugs.”
Facing this currently. It's frustrating.

Brother beaten severely as a kid. Doesn’t speak to dad at all now.
The managers with consulting background are the worst. You won’t be able to have a meaningful technical conversation with them
I’d say the worst are the non-technical consultants who think they’re technical.
