Since conservatives are late to the whole “the mainstream media is biased” game, I’m curious if conservatives are familiar with the book “manufacturing consent”. What are your points of agreement or departure from this analysis? If you think the media has a left-wing agenda, why do you think left-wingers are critical of the media? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda_model
Problem is people in general only want to hear what they want to hear so they gravitate toward biased media that supports their worldviews and anything that is reported counter is "fake news", "not facts", or "media bias". Media companies are business entities first and foremost so they have to cater to their customer needs. A little fake news (actual fake or heavily slanted news that ignores anything counter to that view) to get more views and eyeballs? Sure it makes business sense to. Reporting actual news is boring and no one really wants to pay for that and you can't make a sustainable business out of it anymore, it's all catering to specific demographics and to sell ads for that demographic. If you don't want media bias, go tell the person in the mirror that.
You talk about "leftwingers" as if everyone on the left agrees with each other. That is not true. Noam Chomsky is on the left. Hillary Clinton is on the left. But those two people do not agree on foreign policy. The same is true of "conservatives". Financial conservatives and evangelicals do not agree on most issues.
Liberals are generally considered center-left, not left. I’m not sure Clinton qualifies even as a liberal. I don’t think someone like Chomsky and Clinton have much political overlap. I mean, let’s take this out of abstract labels: Chomsky is against the US military and US imperialism and capitalism. Clinton supported every major war of her lifetime, voted to support wars in her political career and supports capitalism. It’s totally different ideologies.
TMI! Also Nono Tchomski has terrible ratings. Sad. His show sucks bigly time!
So I guess that’s a “no, not familiar with these arguments”?
I'm neither a lib not a conservative but I think Both liberal and conservative media are try to convince you about the ideologies they believe in. The NYT which is a liberal newspaper completely supported the Iraq war. Media is always biased.
An open source software that collects stats on beliefs of various people and their ideologies would help? Just trying to figure out if we can leverage technology to get more people to agree to something, not subscribing to any ideology and in silo could be scary too
