All you married people out there....do u guys have a joint bank account? If not, how do u guys manage the expenses?
I’m so interested in this topic. :D
We manage our finances separately...It works for us.
Who pays the rent/mortgage? Who pays the bills?
We take turns paying the rent and split bills
The best strategy is to have individual accounts which gives you an option to expense from only 1 account and save the other one. If the expenses are more then you can either transfer some from the other account to your expense one. OR Open a new expense account and put money into that from your individual accounts.
Shared account to cover ongoing household opex, individual accounts for everything else
This is what we do. It works well.
+1 ... contribute 50% to joint account, rest to individual accounts.
(From rent till shopping) my spouse takes care of all the expenses
What is your contribution?
Are you Asian? No offense
How do you contribute to that joint account?
Joint for us. Has worked great. We talk about personal splurges but no issues...yet.
It works great until it doesn’t. Like driving without seatbelts or airbags. It’s not bad until shit happens.
Asian here. Can’t relate.
Why?
We have a joint account that we put our direct deposits into. We have separate accounts (bank and credit cards) for our own personal things that we will pull from our joint account. All bills are paid for through the joint account.
