Hey folks, I need some suggestion to decide best offer to grow in career and sustainable company if recession comes. Received initial verbal offers. How much can I negotiate? McKinsey Role : Junior SWE Base: 116k Sign in bonus: not offered yet but requested Perf. Bonus: 6k No RSU Retirement plan: 12% match ($14500 approximate time in every December) TC: 137k Location: Dallas Relocation: need to provide number PTOs: 4 weeks + 2 weeks sick leave Walmart Role: SWE -2 (X2 level) Base : 95k Perf. Bonus: 16% Signin bonus: 10k Rsu: 10k TC: 130k Location: Dallas Relocation: need to provide number YOE: 3+ MS in CS ( fresh graduate ) I would appreciate your comments. Why one beats to another? (apart from personal factors) If you could provide WLB and working culture will be helpful to decide right one. Thanks in advance! #tech #swe #offer #mckinsey #walmart #negotiateoffer #negotiation #negotiate #salarynegotiation #newgradsalary #walmartlabs
FWIW, McKinsey has long been known as the most prestigious employer in the world (all specifics equal). When the average person thinks of a WM employee, a greeter probably comes to mind. This shouldn’t matter years from now when future prospective recruiters and hiring manager review your resume, BUT it for sure WILL MATTER. GLHF
With a MSCS, I would suggest you try to get x3 at Walmart
They are asking for 7 to 8 years of experience for x3
That is BS. I hire MS students out of school at x3 if they are stellar, or average with a couple of years of experience and MS.
McKinsey > WMT
Any strong reasons?
I attended a top MBA program, currently work at Walmart and spent 5 years working for a top Consulting firm. I’d 100% actually go Walmart if I were you. McKinsey is a consulting firm, but you aren’t joining as a consultant. You’ll be joining to support back-office functionality for their consultants. I don’t think the work will be super interesting, nor do I think it’ll be super transferable to top tech firms. Walmart is making strides in their e-commerce business, and will provide transferable skills for you to grow your career elsewhere. While I respect “the firm” (McKinsey), I think Walmart is the much better play here
Why assume back office only?
Lol it’s okay, according to you recruiters will only look at the brand so it shouldn’t matter what he or she works on. “BuT iT WiLl FoR SuRe MaTtEr”
Do not accept X2 level with MS, Walmart gives minimum X3 by default for MSCS candidate, spending few more months and getting better level job will be worth than settling on lower level, that sign on is just one time, so overall WMT offer is very low.
Would recommend McKinsey based on the experience and learning you are likely to get at McKinsey vs. Walmart as a junior developer. Also, many teams at Walmart hire MS CS grads as X3 and not X2. Good Luck 👍
You should ask WM for X3 with 3 years of exp. You cant be put in the same level as an entry level grad.
I was a X3 fresh out of college
What Walmart team is that for? Or Organization?
