Which large tech companies you think will last 20+ years?
Deliberating between 2 options: McKinsey: implementation coach (2 levels below manager), 110k base, implementation team (potentially better exit options) EY-P: Consultant (1 level below director(EY-P calls their managers, directors)), 170k base, Turnaround and Restructuring team (potential smaller, more boutique feel, better WLB compared to Mck) Thank you Current TC 110K #consulting
Impressive. How did you get McK and EYP offers from industry? I would ask McK if they can get closer to the the EYP offer.
McKinsey doesn't negotiate at all (at least at my level)
Depends on what you want. People don't go to McKinsey for money, they go for what the name will do for them afterwards. You're new to this biz, right? Try McKinsey and if you don't like it, try to pivot elsewhere.
Even for lower pay, I would get McKinsey on my resume for Two years and if they don’t comp you well quit. The brand on your resume is worth it. It’s like having Google on your resume. Needless to say, try to negotiate as much as possible with McKinsey.
McK does not negotiate at my level
Having worked for both, EY culture is way better. There's a term called EY nice. McKinsey is toxic as hell.
Just started reading the McKinsey book, so this is interesting to hear. How are they toxic?
EY and EY-P culture are slightly different..
Definitely not McK because implementation coach is like 2nd class there. If mck was strategy I'd agree with other comments.
Agreed, thats not the prestigious part of McK.
True, but when you switch to industry or even go to industry or even elsewhere for eg M&A integration or restructuring at like Alvarez & Marsal/etc or even activist HF or operations focused PE, MCK on the resume is a subconscious vote of confidence. You can always try to make the jump from implementation to strategy (MBA maybe necessary), but in my experience as a hiring manager and observing others, esp those who don’t know much about consulting, they see MCK and get all googley eyed and giggly like they just landed a stud. You’re highly likely to jump towards top of list, all else equal. EY-P group matters to people who know the industry and even then, MCK in a “tier 2” group is still seen as a proxy that you’re smart enough to get hired and stay there, so you must have pedigree and brains/skillz. That said, unless the MCK bonus bridges the gap more (like $30k+), I would understand how this is a difficult situation. Much more $ now vs key to opportunities and money later.
Restructuring seems more interesting than implementation imo
I agree
EY-P. If you can get a Mck offer now, you can probably get another offer down the line so eff the prestige argument
EY-P WLB ftw
EY-P strat > implementation coach at McK
Could u explain how EYP strategy is better than Mck implementation? Have u worked with implementation folks in Mck? They say they do about 80% strategy work. Thank you!
Make sure you work on your QC when you write emails. “Deliberate” diliberate is not a word
Whoops, you're right! Thank you :)
No contest here, EYP
Really? Some McK people said the exact same for Mck just because of prestige. But I'm new to consulting so I don't know how significant the difference is.
Agree that McKinsey will open lot more doors but EYP offer is way higher. Also not sure what implementation work look like!! Wait for others to evaluate.
