Hello, I'm writing to see if the job offer is fair. I have the compensation overview email version displaying the TC with a formal job offer letter expecting to arrive on Monday. What does Medtronic typically flex on? Sign-on bonus? vacation? MIP? I'm super excited to start this position!: OFFER: Position: Principal Manufacturing Engineer Location: Remote/NH (occasional travel to site) BASE: $125,000 MIP Target %: 15% MIP: $18,750 TC: $143,750 Current Position: Sr. Mfg. Engineer, Medical Device side of Elbit Systems of America Current TC: 112,000 No stock options YOE: 11 Location: NH #surgicalrobotics #medtronic #medtroniccompensation #healthcare #intuitivesurgical #johnsonandjohnson #siemens #abbott #offer #manufacturing #operations #robotics
Ask for a higher bass
It's all about the bass about the bass
Low base for local market.
Low offer. Base should be $150k. Ask for RSU/stocks plus higher bonus structure. As far as surgical robotics look into direct competitors
Pretty low base for a Principal. Average bonus. I'd agree with the other poster and ask for $150k Base.
The base is low even for Medtronic and at a principal this role should be giving stock. But I’d expect about 140-150 for a principal at Medtronic
Naw, Medtronic only gives stock at the Senior Manager level or higher , that’s their corporate rules. Recently (like two weeks ago) a recruiter told me the company is looking to change that to allow lower levels with stock opportunities, but probably a year or two away from that happening.
Another follow up. Companies to look into Verb, Stryker, Phillips. All those would have a base of 150k+ generous bonus structure
Verb is non existent anymore. Its JnJ Robotics and Digital surgery group. TC: SWE 160k + 12% bonus. 4 YOE.
Good point
I know it's a different location but that's damn close to an insult.....
Wouldn’t go as far to say an insult, unless it’s a SF based job. Remote option, with top benefits with a good culture, and good work life balance, all those weigh in. He should ask for more base, yes, but there’s so many positives with Medtronic.
Congratulations :) Medtronic is a good company. You can discuss the base salary. Another $10-15k shouldn't be a far fetched. MIP usually defined for internal organizations and levels, exceptions tend to be rare.
That's regulated industry for you. It's human life you are dealing with. You won't exactly feel good if your bug end up killing someone. But you are right, this mean in general slow pase in every thing. You can't jump on latest tech and adapt as you go and ship it the next day. If that is what you are looking for, stay away from the medical field.
Regulated industry basics, objective evidence for everything, you said you improved the design, show how exactly (performance reports, etc), want to change a material that contacts the patient? Show toxicological testing that says your “cheaper” material still performs as intended and it’s safe. It’s really a simple mathematical logic. Evidence-based approach. I did R&D, Material Sci, SW Eng, and Regulatory, for different health companies (4 out of the top 10). Key is to try and understand each function and how they all come together. Cheers
Low for a principal-level engineer, even if it’s not software. Also, no equity?! They’re a massive public company ffs. Ask for equity, and if they refuse ask for a higher base (I’d ask for $150k).
