Position: Senior Electrical Engineer Base: 120K Performance bonus: 10% No RSUs, No sign on bonus Exp: MS+5yrs Location: LA Recruiter mentioned there are no RSUs for Sr. level roles. Is this true? This is just the initial offer, any room for negotiation? Update: I gave my numbers to the recruiter. Recruiter got back to me with same base (no change) 120k and added a sign on bonus of 5k, no RSUs. Any comments on how to negotiate further? #hardware #medtronic #medtronicoffer
Is the performance bonus dependent on company performance as well? I have worked in multiple places where there’s a complex formula to calculate yearly bonuses and all had a component against company earnings. I have gotten the short end where I have done extremely well personally but the company was meh. I don’t want you to base this decision off of any bonus potential, unless you specifically worked for a tech company and/or a FAANG.
That's a good point. I'll ask this to the HR.
Perdormance bonus is dependent on company performance, not individual performance.
That's really low for someone with your background, I think you should look for better opportunities. Accept this if you must and keep applying.
Neurocrine offered $80k RSUs for principal engineer/scientist position with a same base. Base salary is similar for masimo,Medtronic and Abbott. Meta might offer TC twice or thrice for this kind of role.
In that casr, I'll ask for RSUs. Also, I'd love to get a referral at Meta 😅
Not a strong offer imo. One of my friends is moving to Phoenix for a 130k + bonus offer from a different company for a similar position.
Did your friend receive any RSUs for this similar offer? Also is it a signon bonus or performance bonus?
No RSU but they're paying for relocation + performance bonus.
That seems pretty low. Basically 132k total compensation (including bonus). Is that a standard offer for senior engineer outside of big tech ?
Yeah but that seems a tad low for LA. I have had this TC in a LCOL area so they are underpaid.
I'm trying to negotiate higher base and a sign on bonus.
Update: I gave my numbers to the recruiter. Recruiter got back to me with same base 120k and added a sign on bonus of 5k, no RSUs. Any comments on how to negotiate further?
My advice. Break out of the med tech field and go to a company with stable stock that gives good RSUs. Accept this for now but keep interviewing. I used to work for a company partnered with metronic med device industry sucks long term.
@Google That's the plan. I am not even in the Medtech field. I already have a verbal offer from one of the FAANG with much higher TC, but I haven't received the offer letter yet (since last 2 weeks) which is frustrating. My Medtronic offer deadline is approaching really soon.
Did you end up joining? How do you like it there?
No, I joined another company
