Hi, I have an interview scheduled for the QA Engineering Lead position at Meta. Has anyone interviewed for that position before? Any insights on the same would be very helpful. #engineering #software #swe #qa #sdet Current TC: 130k YOE: 8 years.
Have never heard of this role. Looks like something very niche. Have you considered your internal transfer options if this does not work out? Meta is a SWE driven culture and other roles like QA will be very much looked down upon when times turn sour. Besides with SWEs doing most of the testing where you would add value is debatable making you very vulnerable
I've also asked about SDET positions at Meta that I saw on their careers site. But they were under different recruiters. My recruiter though did mention about getting into Meta first and then may be try to switch internally later.
That’s typical of any recruiter. They want to get you in and then you are on your own. Suggest researching before taking the leap. Meta is atypical and you are responsible for figuring out where to add value - even your manager will not help figure out opportunities. You are hired to figure that out and if the role is very niche it becomes hard
I had given the interview, and also I know someone who works in Meta as a QA Lead! All they do is manage contractors and tell contractors to work while giving orders, especially for Reels, Watch, and Live Teams. Plus interview is a shit show, with lots of politics and ass licking..
@OP did you get the job? Any advice for the first round?
Hey, no, didn't get an offer. It'll be purely behavioral questions. So prepare the Star method to answer them. Nothing much other than that I guess
What do you think is the reason you failed the interview? Did you make it past the first round?
Do you know if it had any coding round?
Very conversational. Not technical at all.
Would you mind sharing some examples of questions that were asked?
Is this the virtual loop?
Mainly behavioral questions. Theres hardly any technical
Interesting.. Swe generally writes unit testing, integration testing, scalability testing
Yea, There are a few positions online as generic qa lead positions and qa lead for Meta reality labs. Any idea hows the job like?
There used to be a great head of QA who left recently, and while I’ve worked with great people there, a large part of the problem is that the RL automation org is essentially a scam that’s been running for years where that team automates the stupidest things so they have job security maintaining bad abstraction layers that shouldn’t exist and politically manoeuvering to keep competent people out of the space. Proceed cautiously.
