How well did you finish your coding ? No bug? Optimal solution? Correct time and space complexity? Any flexibility in those areas?
Does it need to be prefect in all aspect to pass? I made a mistake in big time complexity.
As in you made a mistake trying to guess it?
Yeah
two coding rounds. first round interviewer arrived 5 minutes late. gave question on tree, solved it optimally. interviewer asked to describe an alternate optimal solution (which did not use some part of previous solution) verbally. 🙄 i coded it up given interviewer kept on asking more and more questions. second question on arrays/strings. coded up optimal solution. again asked for alternate solution (which did not use some part of previous solution). this time again tried to code it up but interviewer intervened and told me it’s fine. 🥹 got time/space complexity for both right. so in a way had to do 4 questions in 40 minutes. still pinch myself that i could do it. i am not a leetcode monkey and hate leetcode as a way to measure intelligence if i am completely honest. second coding round. first question on k linked lists and some form of merging it in complex way. almost completed it but got stuck in a part. 😢 interviewer did not let me code after a point saying i will be late for next question. next question on tree. completed optimal solution in 5 minutes. 😓 interviewer asked me to prove it works. i did my best and showed it works for all corner cases. then asked interviewer if i can go to previous question. he did not let me even though i had 5-10 minutes. 😡 asked me if i had any questions for him. hid my disappointment, anger and frustration and asked him about his work. and other small talk till 45 minutes were done. 😭 again got time/space complexity for both right. turns out my case did not even go to hiring committee and seems like i was a strong hire. somehow ended up with a 465k offer from a good team. 🤯 (excluding 100k sign on) moral of the story: what is meant to happen will happen. do your best and leave the rest to fate. i didn’t even take meta interview seriously given all the layoffs. my wife later mentioned that maybe not taking meta interview seriously allowed me to be relaxed for the interview which helped in good performance. i was more concerned about nvidia interview couple of days later. my idiot meta recruiter asked for my interview availability but scheduled interview on a day/time when i wasn’t even available. 😡 somehow a work related meeting got canceled and i could do the interview. remember telling my wife these meta folks really seem to want me to fail (first the recruiter, then the interviewer coming 5 minutes late and second interviewer not letting me finish) and i don’t care 🤷♂️ if i make it or not. also realized that strings/arrays and linked list based questions can be really slippery and dangerous irrespective of how innocuous they tend to look/feel. more so when you have just 45 minutes to complete two questions. wish everyone interviewing all the best.
String questions are the hardest IMHO. Very deceiving.
You are right if something meant to be it will happen. Thanks for take the time to write the complete the answer, I see what happens.
Updates?
Reject. But they told me I was close
Sorry about that OP - how “well” did you do in coding rounds?
Good but not prefect
Like you solved both questions per round?
I think I didnt solve one extension
Mine was generally correct. Interviewer got the time complexity wrong for one. Had to get hints to find a slightly faster solution once. Finished all coding quickly. No hards. No bugs that I remember. Top of band offer.
Honestly they kinda softballed my coding. Most of the coding was from the top meta questions on leetcode. I think they figured that out after round 1
