I have a Meta E6 onsite coming in Jan. Any tips for system design? Also, I have 3 System Design scheduled. Is this expected? 2 Coding 3 System Design 1 Behavioral L6 TC 370k #meta #swe
Are they having real onsite or virtual onsite? Bay Area?
Virtual
3 system design or 2 system design + 1 tech retro?
Atleast it says System Design for all 3
Know the inner workings of the components you use, deeply. E.g. how does Kafka efficiently store data on disk and in what format, or how to implement Redis, or modify it to be multithreaded. And not just hand-wavy shit, but low level implementation details. Then be able to use those components to design larger systems
Any resources for an organized approach? Advanced grokking system design goes some depth
I went through both volumes of Alex Xu systems design books. Did very well on a large system design question, but got absolutely tossed on designing an efficient, in-memory queue (mostly on how to implement efficient multithreading). So my advice would be to go through those books, and then learn how every component works internally
Wow I thought being an IC would get easier later in career 🤦
Haha why did you think that
I thought they would look at resume and what you’ve done and give that more weight rather than adding 3 system design and 2 LC rounds lol it’s like high school SAT all over again
Prepare to be down leveled to e5
I guess it is E6/E7 not E6 because of 3 system design
EM roles are getting more and more tougher. No longer a leadership role.

3 system design = E7 1 coding?
2 coding
3 sys, 1 behavioral and 2 coding? Weird. Specialist role?
