Lol Iā€™m interviewing for the same role, Iā€™ve 10 yoe

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jun 29, 2022

thatā€™s great! for me itā€™s about of their new grad positions. at first I was interviewing for their privacy engineer red team but then switched to the tech audit side

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jun 29, 2022

unfortunately, I donā€™t have any information besides the basics of the job posting. once I hear back from the recruiter I can let you know more of a general overview. šŸ™‚

This team sounds desperate but the recruiters donā€™t seem to know what to do. Everyone Iā€™ve talked to has basically been funneled to this team but so far I havenā€™t heard anyone get offers. They keep saying this field is like security 15 years ago. What does that even mean? It doesnā€™t sound like the managers know what they want.

Microsoft fbāˆµ Jun 29, 2022

This is the general consensus lately. Which is kinda sad and doesn't give them a better image. I've also been hearing of people who didn't get into X team to be redirected there. More than they don't know what they want, it is probably that they are figuring out many things as they go and build the teams, which might not be what most people want.

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jun 29, 2022

oh wow. this makes me a little worried now because I literally canā€™t find or know anyone in this specific position or find info about it online. šŸ˜•

Microsoft fbāˆµ Jun 29, 2022

Team is kinda new and wants to grow substantially. As you probably know, it's divided in 3 areas, all hiring. There are many smart people leading the teams (I know 1 of them) and if you are at all interested in the field, I would say to give it a shot. Having said that, not many people know of it (even internally), so recruiters are pushing hard to fill those roles, which might be seen (or it might even be) a red flag, or maybe they are really just starting out something new. Note: I do not work in that area, just know someone in it which I trust, but 1 person does not make everything.

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jun 29, 2022

thank you for this overview! šŸ˜Š is there anything I should probably expect such as certain topics, coding, etc that might be asked during the interview? the recruiter wasnā€™t much help at all.

Microsoft fbāˆµ Jun 29, 2022

Hmmā€¦ your recruiter should be your ā€œbest friendā€ in terms of what to expect. If itā€™s for a new grad position considering your <1yoe I would say itā€™s more of a generalist security engineer interview with some focus on privacy, but they wonā€™t expect you to be an expert whatsoever. At least for phone screen expect general security knowledge (focused more on privacy of course), maybe a couple of open ended questions and a simple coding problem (all security engineers code at Facebook, but itā€™s not at the bar of regular SWEs, but easy to maybe medium LC should be fine). Again, after phone screen make sure to clear all doubts and ask all questions to your recruiter as they will be able to give much more specific advice as to what to expect in each onsite.

Hey OP, how did it go? I have an interview coming up for a similar position

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jul 4, 2022

hi! my virtual on-site is currently still being scheduled but I did receive an informal guide about the interview process and helpful tips to prep

IBM maj_bunny Jul 5, 2022

Did the recruiter ask technical questions as well or was there a separate phone screen?

Dominion Energy SUaS16 Jul 19, 2022

Just got the email from my recruiter today, would you mind me asking what kind of questions they asked in the original phone screen? and did you have your virtual on-site? I'd love to ace the interviews. Thanks!

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jul 19, 2022

Hi! Basically for the phone interview it was just an overview of my resume and one technical question. Yes, Iā€™ve had my on-site and waiting to hear if Iā€™ve have been extended an offer or not. Unfortunately, I canā€™t go too much into detail about the on-site due to NDA.

Dominion Energy SUaS16 Jul 19, 2022

Thanks! If you don't mind me asking did you have a background in security? I am about to graduate with a bachelors in cybersecurity and wondered if that would help me a little bit. How soon after the phone screen did they contact you to set up the on-site?

IBM maj_bunny Jul 20, 2022

Been looking at all the hiring freeze at meta posts - just wondering if the privacy/security space is impacted aa well?

L3Harris Technologies dex_zz Jul 27, 2022

yep just got the email

IBM maj_bunny Jul 27, 2022

Are they not moving forward with the interviews? I have my onsite scheduled for august.

L3Harris Technologies rohansaini Jul 21, 2022

without going into any detail - how much of the on-site was coding (for the new grad positions)

KPMG rainb0wflo OP Jul 21, 2022

just one round which was the coding interview

L3Harris Technologies dex_zz Jul 21, 2022

one round for the whole on-site? or one round coding?

Dominion Energy HqIA71 Jul 26, 2022

How long after you received the initial email (asking you to clarify grad year, location, etc) did you hear back from the recruiter about setting up the phone screen?

L3Harris Technologies dex_zz Jul 27, 2022

Recruiter emailed me to cancel the interview lol - they aren't continuing screening due to headcount logistics :)

Dominion Energy HqIA71 Jul 27, 2022

Yeah theyā€™re on full hiring freeze now I think
