hi blind community! does anyone who currently/previously employment at Meta has held a position as a privacy engineer specifically tech audit (new grad)? i have an upcoming interview soon and I wanted to gather as much insight as I can. thanks! š tc: 80K yoe: <1 #Meta #Facebook
This team sounds desperate but the recruiters donāt seem to know what to do. Everyone Iāve talked to has basically been funneled to this team but so far I havenāt heard anyone get offers. They keep saying this field is like security 15 years ago. What does that even mean? It doesnāt sound like the managers know what they want.
This is the general consensus lately. Which is kinda sad and doesn't give them a better image. I've also been hearing of people who didn't get into X team to be redirected there. More than they don't know what they want, it is probably that they are figuring out many things as they go and build the teams, which might not be what most people want.
oh wow. this makes me a little worried now because I literally canāt find or know anyone in this specific position or find info about it online. š
Team is kinda new and wants to grow substantially. As you probably know, it's divided in 3 areas, all hiring. There are many smart people leading the teams (I know 1 of them) and if you are at all interested in the field, I would say to give it a shot. Having said that, not many people know of it (even internally), so recruiters are pushing hard to fill those roles, which might be seen (or it might even be) a red flag, or maybe they are really just starting out something new. Note: I do not work in that area, just know someone in it which I trust, but 1 person does not make everything.
thank you for this overview! š is there anything I should probably expect such as certain topics, coding, etc that might be asked during the interview? the recruiter wasnāt much help at all.
Hmmā¦ your recruiter should be your ābest friendā in terms of what to expect. If itās for a new grad position considering your <1yoe I would say itās more of a generalist security engineer interview with some focus on privacy, but they wonāt expect you to be an expert whatsoever. At least for phone screen expect general security knowledge (focused more on privacy of course), maybe a couple of open ended questions and a simple coding problem (all security engineers code at Facebook, but itās not at the bar of regular SWEs, but easy to maybe medium LC should be fine). Again, after phone screen make sure to clear all doubts and ask all questions to your recruiter as they will be able to give much more specific advice as to what to expect in each onsite.
Hey OP, how did it go? I have an interview coming up for a similar position
Just got the email from my recruiter today, would you mind me asking what kind of questions they asked in the original phone screen? and did you have your virtual on-site? I'd love to ace the interviews. Thanks!
Hi! Basically for the phone interview it was just an overview of my resume and one technical question. Yes, Iāve had my on-site and waiting to hear if Iāve have been extended an offer or not. Unfortunately, I canāt go too much into detail about the on-site due to NDA.
Thanks! If you don't mind me asking did you have a background in security? I am about to graduate with a bachelors in cybersecurity and wondered if that would help me a little bit. How soon after the phone screen did they contact you to set up the on-site?
Been looking at all the hiring freeze at meta posts - just wondering if the privacy/security space is impacted aa well?
yep just got the email
Are they not moving forward with the interviews? I have my onsite scheduled for august.
without going into any detail - how much of the on-site was coding (for the new grad positions)
just one round which was the coding interview
one round for the whole on-site? or one round coding?
How long after you received the initial email (asking you to clarify grad year, location, etc) did you hear back from the recruiter about setting up the phone screen?
Recruiter emailed me to cancel the interview lol - they aren't continuing screening due to headcount logistics :)
Yeah theyāre on full hiring freeze now I think
Lol I canceled my on-site few weeks ago specifically for this role and a few days ago they emailed me to reschedule, how dareā¦.
Lol Iām interviewing for the same role, Iāve 10 yoe
thatās great! for me itās about of their new grad positions. at first I was interviewing for their privacy engineer red team but then switched to the tech audit side
unfortunately, I donāt have any information besides the basics of the job posting. once I hear back from the recruiter I can let you know more of a general overview. š
