https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/05/25/meta-layoffs-future-facebook-instagram-company/ On Thursday, Zuckerberg that he expects to unveil new guidelines about how and where employees will work now that concerns regarding the pandemic have subsided. He wants more of a “critical mass” of employees working together from the office at least a few days a week to improve performance and boost culture, he said.
Lmao. Imagine banking your future on virtual collaboration (metaverse) and then enforcing RTO 🤣
I hate this nonsense argument. Virtual collaboration tools are not great right now (they need to be built) by working in-person. Once they are, Meta can dog food. That’s like saying why don’t people use cars before cars were built. I have no views on RTO. But this argument just doesn’t make sense
If working in person is so much better, why bank your future on virtual collaboration? I would prefer the current virtual collaboration tools of zoom/slack over wearing a headset for 8 hours.
Luckily it’s just for people who are not classified as remote (me). So if you were in the office before you’ll come back.
How do you know that? Is it confirmed?
Yeah Zuck said it today in the QA. Remote will stay remote they’re not doing away with it but people who used to come into the office will start coming back. For remote folks they want us to meet with our teams at least once a quarter. Which we do. We all fly in to a central location.
It’s just a 4th round layoff and way to shake loose those who can’t afford metro living, moved to healthier cities, or have child care needs they can’t resolve. Way to kick your loyal staffers in the nuts.

I don't like Zuck but I agree with his view on RTO. Metaverse was never really a viable idea.
Confirmed today internally stating sep 1
