Meta Refresher Policy
Meta is one of the few Big Techs that has generous and guaranteed refreshers irrespective of how high your initial grant was or how much your previous stocks have grown (Sorry Amazon and Microsoft). These refreshers stack up and makes your TC continue to go higher in the first 4 years. Each refresher is for 4 years vesting 1/16th every Quarter and vesting starts immediately (Sorry again Amazon guys). So a person on 4th year has the highest comp with Initial grant + 3 years of Refreshers stacked up. I know couple of IC7s who have made 2 Million+ in 4th year. Note - None of this is secret, they are available in various websites. Numbers and Percentages are rounded. Meta Refresher is a simple formula of - Target_for_Level * Rating * Role * Country Level -------- IC3 50K IC4 100K IC5 200K IC6 300K IC7 500K IC8 850K Rating ------ 250% - Redefine 175% - Greatly Exceeds 125% - Exceeds 100% - Meets 65% - MM (used to be 80%) 0% - NM Top 3 ratings are given to 50% of people, and bottom 3 are given to bottom 50%. 100% - Special ratings (Too new to Rate, Leaves) Role Multiplier ----------- 100% - SWE, MLE, Research Scientist, Security, SRE 75% - Hardware, PM, Enterprise Engineer 50% - Data Science, Data Engineer, TPM, Design, Support, Network Engineer 25% - UX Research, Content, Analyst Note - Meta does not treat MLE to be any different than SWE Country Multiplier -------------- Meta does not have Cost of living changes. You will get the same Stocks in Bay Area vs Jackson, Mississippi. 100% - US 90% - Rest of NA, EU (North, West, Center) 80% - Rest of the world including EU (South, East) Example -------- An IC6 SWE with Exceeds Rating in US will get a 375K refresher (300*1.25*1*1) and will continue to get this every year.

Noob q: Isn't SRE same as support engineer? They are paid less elsewhere. How come Meta is paying them so much? Or am I interpreting the role differently?
Its different. They write non-feature code at Meta and focus on reliability.

Adobe ML engineer/scientist have similar refreshers. Basically sde3-> E4, sde4 -> E5 and sde5 -> E6. Just won’t see greatly exceeds and redefines that often. Meets is similar range and most fall within that range. Non ML folks earn 3x lesser refreshers at Adobe. Strange but true.
